The Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta state, Comrade Friday Warri has tasked the National University Commission (NUC) to deliver on its constitutional mandate as it concerns accreditation of higher institutions in the country.
Comrade Warri gave the charge last Monday in his office at Oleh, headquarters of the local government when he played host to the accreditation team of National University Commission that paid him a courtesy visit.
The Chairman urged the NUC team to be thorough about their assessment ,in order to accredit schools that meet the required standard.
He however, cautioned against schools that are short of reputable standard and in turn, produce graduates with certificate that cannot be tendered anywhere in the world.
The Council Chairman therefore, assured of his administration’s commitment towards providing assistance to Mary Martha Nursing College that is affiliated to Niger Delta University in Bayelsa state to stand on a strong footing.
Comrade Warri also paid a copious tribute to the Bishop of Oleh Diocese of the Anglican Communion ,Rt Revd Usiwoma Aruakpo for his fortrighness and vision towards establishing the Nursing College in Oleh.
The Chairman stated that with the Mary Martha Nursing College in operation, it would bridge the gap of shortage of nurses in the state and the Nation at large.
He cautioned the management of Mary Martha college to produce graduates that would stand the test of time in their respective endeavours.
The Chairman decried the shortage of nurses in the country, and pointed out that the few ones available are facing ‘japa’ syndrome.
Earlier in her speech, NUC team leader Prof. Mildred E. John had intimated the Council Chairman of their mission to Isoko South and sue for collaboration of the Local Government with Mary Martha Nursing College to flourish especially now that the school is about to be accredited.
She revealed that the National University Commission do not compromise standards when it comes to accreditation process, hence they are here to access things for themselves.
Also speaking, the Bishop of Oleh Diocese of Anglican Communion, Rt Revd. Usiwoma Aruakpor however, expressed confidence over Mary Martha Nursing school management team in the delivery on its mandate area.
Present during the courtesy visit were Hon. Aziakpono Osuofa, Secretary to Isoko South Local Government, Dr Nosayuba Eghigie of NUC Abuja, Mr Udey Felix of NUC Abuja, Prof. Clementina Nwaukwo of Niger Delta University, Unyove Matthew Assistant Director of Information Isoko South and a host of others.
