Prof. Awhefeada Assumes Office as VC, Rededicates Southern Delta University to God

By Marvis-Eterigho Osiobe

The new Vice Chancellor of Southern Delta University, Ozoro, Prof. Sunny Awhefeada, has pledged to anchor his administration on divine guidance as he formally assumed office, declaring that the institution would be rededicated to God for the next five years.

Prof. Awhefeada made this known during a handover Mass held at the Annunciation Catholic Church within the university, where he emphasized the centrality of God in leadership and institutional growth.

“We are beginning with God. There is nothing after God and there is nothing before God,” he said.

“Today we are rededicating this university to God that for the next five years, God will guide us.”

The Vice Chancellor also used the occasion to appreciate members of the university community and guests who attended the service, noting that their presence underscored a collective commitment to the institution’s future.

In a significant remark, Awhefeada paid glowing tribute to his predecessor, Prof. Oboreh, insisting that he should no longer be addressed as a former or past Vice Chancellor but as the “Founding VC”, in recognition of his foundational contributions to the university.

Earlier in his homily, Fr. C. Igwe charged the new Vice Chancellor to build his administration on the foundation of Christ, stressing that “no other foundation can be laid except that which has been laid by Christ himself.”

The cleric urged Prof. Awhefeada to uphold three key principles in the discharge of his duties: the fear of God, adherence to institutional rules, and discretion in decision-making.

He noted that the fear of God guides leaders to act rightly, while discretion enables sound judgment, drawing reference to King Solomon’s wisdom in the Bible.

Fr. Igwe also commended the outgoing Vice Chancellor for his visible achievements, describing his contributions as impactful and worthy of appreciation.

He offered prayers for renewed strength and divine guidance for him as he proceeds on sabbatical.

Highlighting the challenges of leadership, the priest warned that higher responsibilities often attract greater pressures, stating that “new levels will attract new devils,” and emphasized the need for divine grace to navigate such demands.

Dignitaries present were Prof Presly Obukoadata, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dean’s of various faculties, Chiefs, amongst others.

UZERE – UMEH – PATANI ROAD: NDDC, What’s Up?

By Emmanuel Ekebe

About a year ago, I had written a feature on the abandoned Uzere – Umeh – Patani road and the 132/33kv dedicated line from Delta 1V to Ozoro. I had highlighted the numerous advantages of bringing the two projects to fruition to the betterment of the Isoko people.

The crux of my epistle then had emanated from the report of a high powered Isoko nation delegation to the NDDC, the agency driving these critical projects.

Like every expectant Isoko patriot, the assurance extracted during that visit had buoyed hopes to high heavens.

It was a wide and loud Halleluya for prayers answered at last. It wasn’t mere conjectures then as there were affirmative signals that both projects were primed to commence before the end of 2025.

In effect, the 16 kilometers Uzere – Patani road was to go through revocation, evaluation and re- award within the spate of time.

On the other hand, the power project that had been evaluated was to get the equipment seized by the Customs released towards installation and activation.

However, it is shocking and mind bugling that inspite of all the lofty promises, there is nothing in sight to indicate that the projects are going to see the light very soon. What a calamity!

Yes, the power project can run at any time but for the road that passes through a rough and swampy terrain, we have tactically lost yet another year as we march into the raining season.

Meanwhile, at the last check, the substantive contractor of that has not been approached for determination of the outstanding commitment before the project was stalled.

The greater worry is that after the long and tasking effort dissipated to bring these projects back into focus, its like the ubiquitous dark forces that have jinxed them over the years are not ready to let go yet.

Equally confounding is the blind silence on the state of the said third award of the road and this has given room for several speculations.

Is it the issue of budget funding, incompetence or lugubrious administrative bottleneck?

Worst of it; could it be inability to align subterranean conflicting interests?

Which ever and whatever the case may be, I think it is time for the IDU to once again activate the necessary machineries and push the NDDC to rise up to bring these projects back on stream soonest.

There’s no doubt that the Isoko people are fed up with the unkempt promises and unwarranted delays of these key projects and the time to act is now!

IGM Backs Odior with N10m, Endorses Tinubu, Oborevwori, Ukodhiko for Second Term

By Our Reporter

A prominent grassroots political group in Isoko Nation, the Isoko Grassroots Movement (IGM), has presented a cheque of N10 million to the member representing Isoko North State Constituency, Hon. Bernard Odior, to support his bid for re-election in the 2027 general elections.

The group also used the occasion to endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and the member representing Isoko North/South Federal Constituency, Hon. Jonathan Ajirioghene Ukodhiko, for second terms in office.

The endorsement and presentation took place during a well-attended political gathering in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area, marking the formal launch of the group’s activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

The event featured a solidarity procession through major parts of Ozoro, culminating at Ala Square, where supporters, political stakeholders, and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from across the 13 wards in the local government area gathered in large numbers to demonstrate support for the endorsed candidates.

Speaking at the event, the Director-General of the group, Mr. Kingsley Aka, alongside its leader, Chief Timothy Ezue, commended the turnout and enthusiasm of attendees despite the short notice.

They noted that the movement had carefully assessed the political landscape and resolved to support leaders they described as “performing and people-oriented.”

The duo praised the leadership of President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori, citing ongoing development efforts at the national and state levels.

They also applauded the contributions of Hon. Ukodhiko and Hon. Odior, highlighting their constituency projects and accessibility to the people.

Chief Ezue, in particular, pointed to Odior’s performance within his first term, stating that the lawmaker’s achievements had justified the group’s decision to support his re-election.

He urged constituents to sustain their backing to ensure continued development in Isoko North.

Other speakers at the event, including former Isoko North Local Government Chairman and Executive Assistant to the Governor on political matters, Chief Emmanuel Edevor, as well as former President-General of Ozoro Kingdom, High Chief Miller Akpoili Daniel, called for unity among the people in support of the endorsed candidates.

Dr. Oweh moved a motion for the formal endorsement of President Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori, Hon. Ukodhiko, and Hon. Odior for second terms, which was unanimously adopted through a voice vote.
