Okugbe Isoko Affirms Gov. Oborevwori’s Development Commitment to Isoko Nation

By Kelvin Ohoror

The Okugbe Isoko for Sheriff has affirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment and dedication to the development of Isoko nation.

This affirmation was contained in a statement signed and made available to the press by the group Director General, Chief Frank Ozue, Executive Assistant to the Governor, Political and the Spokesperson of the group, Hon. Emakpor Odogu, Executive Assistant to the Governor on Community Development.

According to the group, there are intense reactions following the just concluded Delta State Executive Council meeting, where projects, including the Uromi junction, Agbor and Otowodo junction, Ughelli flyovers, were approved.

The group posited that, “The outcry from a cross section of Isoko nation social media influencer and agitators which was marked by widespread discontent and frustration is uncalled for”.

The group noted that, “The self-styled social critics and development agitators have launched scathing attacks not only on the State Government, alleging deliberate marginalization of Isoko nation in projects citing and development generally, but also on Isoko political leaders. These criticisms of the Isoko leaders for being incompetent and timid in confronting the Governor, and other unflattering descriptions is most unfortunate and uncharitable”.

They said that. “The backlash highlights the growing disillusionment among some Isoko citizens with both the State Government’s perceived neglect and their political leaders’ perceived ineffectiveness”.

According to the statement, “The Okugbe Isoko for Sheriff takes serious exceptions to these conclusions and the reactions of these critics

“We feel that to effectively agitate for government attention and development, it’s essential to adopt a constructive and respectful approach, rather than resorting to personal attacks and inflammatory rhetoric, critics can channel their energies into respectful dialogue, engaging in informed discussions, and collaborating with stakeholders to find solutions”, the group stated.

They added that, critics can bring attention to pressing issues without creating unnecessary antagonism, fostering a more productive and inclusive environment for meaningful development to thrive.

The group extends heartfelt gratitude to the Delta State Governor Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for prioritizing the Otowodo junction Flyover project, recognizing its immense significance to Isoko nation, as the gateway to Isoko nation, this junction serves as a vital link to major cities like Ughelli, Warri, Port Harcourt, and Lagos via the East-West Road.

For years, the notorious gridlock at Otowodo junction has been a perennial nightmare for Isoko people, causing frustration and delays for those traveling to their communities.

They emphasize that “The project’s potential to alleviate this longstanding challenge, boost economic activities, and improve the lives of Isoko people is substantial, and we applaud the government’s foresight in approving this crucial infrastructure development. This mega project doesn’t has to be in Isoko soil before we appreciates it’s overall impact on the Isoko people.

The group also said that, “the Delta State Government has dismissed claims of marginalizing the Isoko nation, citing 53 strategic projects across Isoko North and Isoko South local government areas as evidence of its commitment to equitable development.

“These projects span road infrastructure, healthcare upgrades, and education, including road constructions and rehabilitation, healthcare facility renovations, and significant interventions in Southern Delta University, Ozoro”.

They further said that “The government’s detailed response to the criticisms also underscores Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s open-door policy, demonstrating a willingness to listen to constructive feedback and engage with the community. “This transparency and responsiveness suggest the administration is dedicated to a collaborative approach to governance, working towards a Delta that benefits all its citizens.

The group also said that the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori-led government’s unwavering commitment to the MORE Agenda, underscores its dedication to infrastructural growth, economic empowerment, and the overall well-being of the people.

FMC, OVWIAN: Delta Transfers Otor-Udu General Hospital To FG

By Kelvin Ohoror

Delta State Executive Council (EXCO) has approved the transfer of the General Hospital in Otor-Udu to the Federal Ministry of Health for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ovwian in Udu Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, disclosed this while briefing journalists on some of the far-reaching decisions reached in the health sector, during the State EXCO meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Dr. Onojaeme, while recalling that the Federal Government had approved the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre at Ovwian, disclosed that the Exco ratified Governor Oborevwori’s earlier approval for the transfer of the General Hospital, Otor-Udu to the Federal Government to facilitate establishment of the medical centre.

He noted that the decision of the Federal Government to establish a Federal Medical Centre at Owvian in Udu Local Government Area, was a healthy and commendable development for the people and residents of Udu and environs.

He said: “Sometime back, the Federal Government approved the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre at Ovwian; so, we are giving them the Otor-Udu General Hospital which is to be handed over to the Federal Ministry of Health.

“The establishment of a Federal Medical Centre at Ovwian is a good development because Udu and environs actually need a specialist health centre to complement what we have already given at the Central Hospital, Warri”.

According to him, Exco also approved the procurement and installation of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines at Asaba Specialist Hospital, Central Hospital Warri, and the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, in a strategic move to expand the frontiers of healthcare delivery in the state.

“Also Exco graciously approved the procurement of three Magnetic Resonance lmaging scan machines. These machines are non-evasive machines that answer a lot of clinical questions ranging from excellent prostrate imaging, degenerating spine injuries, brain and other soft tissue imaging.

“Before now, we don’t have a functioning MRI scan machine in the state. And the feature of this one that we are purchasing is a 1.5 Tesla MRI scan machine that is Helium- free.

“The reason the one we have before now did not stand the test of time is because it is Helium -dependent and the money to refill helium is almost the amount to purchase a new one.

“So, this one is good for the state and we went for product specific siemen German machine. It is good, it is going to last the state and it came with a two years maintenance warranty. So, it is a good one for the state,” the Commissioner said.

Prior to the procurement of the MRI scan machines, he said, a lot of patients in the state were being referred to UBTH and LUTH, stressing that with the purchase of MRI machines, some of all the high-end imaging would be done in the state.

Federal Oil and Gas Hospital Bill: Otuaro Commends Tinubu, Akpabio, Sen. Joel-Onowakpo

By Kelvin Ohoror

The people of Benikrukru in Gbaramatu Kingdom have moved a step closer to having a Federal Oil and Gas Hospital, following the bill’s third reading in the Senate.

Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, former Deputy Governor of Delta State, has hailed the development as “a historic victory.”

In his statement, Otuaro thanked Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas and the entire Senate for recognising the healthcare needs of host communities long burdened by environmental degradation and oil-related hazards.

He described the hospital as a critical intervention that will serve both oil industry workers and the host population. “This is about fairness and national balance,” Otuaro said.

According to him, “This historic milestone is not just a legislative victory—it is a major step toward correcting years of healthcare neglect in one of the most critical regions to our national economy”.

He asserted that “The Benikrukruu axis, located in the heart of the Niger Delta, is home to a dense concentration of oil facilities, installations, and multinational oil and gas companies whose operations power the economic engine of Nigeria. It is, therefore, only just and necessary that a specialized medical institution be situated within this hub to provide swift, professional, and industry-specific healthcare services”.

He reiterated that “The Federal Oil and Gas Hospital, when fully established, will serve as a critical response center for oil-related occupational hazards, emergencies, and environmental health challenges that are unique to oil-producing communities. It will also cater to the general wellbeing of the hardworking people of the region who, for decades, have sacrificed their environment and livelihoods in the service of national prosperity”.

He noted that under your visionary and progressive leadership, the Nigerian Senate has again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to equity, development, and national balance. We are deeply encouraged by your support and the unity shown by the Senate in this legislative process.

He however express confidence in the leadership of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, a man renowned for his unwavering commitment to justice, inclusiveness, and development.

“We are optimistic that he will promptly assent to this bill, knowing fully well the strategic importance of this hospital to the wellbeing of our people and the sustainability of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry”.

He further expressed profound gratitude to Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, senator representing Delta south, for sponsoring the bill, stating that they are very grateful.

He further expressed confidence that President Tinubu would promptly sign the bill into law.

Tantita transparency leads to 81% drop in pipeline vandalism – INYA

By Kelvin Ohoror

The Isoko National Youth Assembly (INYA) has highlighted the impact of radical transparency under Tantita Security Services, revealing that pipeline vandalism has dropped by 81% in key production zones since 2022.

According to Comrade Eniwake Orogun, the success is tied to the company’s openness, visibility, and community-based command structures.

“With payrolls public and offices open, there is now ownership, accountability, and trust,” he noted.

Orogun described the period before Tantita as a “black hole of secrecy” where theft thrived under a cloak of invisibility.

In a strongly worded statement titled, “The Unfiltered Reality of Pipeline Security: A Niger Delta for Progress Over Politics”, Comrade Orogun painted a grim picture of what pipeline protection looked like before 2022.

According to him, Nigeria was losing as much as $3 billion annually due to unchecked oil theft while contractors operated in secrecy, unaccountable to the people and completely absent from the crisis-ridden terrains.

He recalled how, prior to the emergence of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd (TSSNL), pipeline surveillance contracts were awarded to faceless entities with no presence in host communities.

Companies like Pipelines Infrastructures Nigeria Ltd (PINL), he said, managed these contracts under a cloak of invisibility. “These contractors were nameless to communities, invisible in crisis zones, and operated without public scrutiny. The result was a complete collapse in accountability, while contracts flowed and oil theft soared,” he stated.

Orogun argued that the deliberate anonymity of past contractors was meant to serve a narrow circle of political fixers, warlords, and power brokers across ethnic lines.

He noted that community engagement was virtually nonexistent. “Independent audits at the time revealed fewer than 1,000 youths were engaged across the entire Delta State, a token force in a region with a population of over 17.5 million. Youth engagement was a myth.”

The lack of visible accountability led to devastating consequences. Nigeria’s oil production plummeted to 1.2 million barrels per day in 2021. On average, over 200,000 barrels were being stolen every day, with the losses weighing heavily on host communities while contractors kept cashing government cheques. Vandalism spiked, and the security of the nation’s economic lifeline collapsed.

However, the tide turned in 2022 with the entrance of Tantita Security Services, a company owned by former militant leader High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo.

According to the INYA president, Tantita introduced a radical departure from the opaque, exclusive contracts of the past.

“Tantita brought over 10,000 youths into the pipeline protection workforce, including thousands from Urhobo, Ijaw, Itsekiri and Isoko communities,” Orogun said.

“This wasn’t tokenism; payrolls are now published, and community liaison offices were opened in 24 kingdoms. For the first time, people could see and feel the presence of those securing their assets.”

The impact, he said, has been both immediate and measurable. Pipeline vandalism has dropped by 81 percent in key production zones. Nigeria has recovered over 400,000 barrels per day in output within just 18 months. New youth commanders across different ethnicities now lead field operations, breaking away from the past system that was built on patronage and exclusion.

Reacting to recent calls for a return to ethnic monopoly in the award of surveillance contracts, Orogun warned that history must not be repeated.

He recalled that prior to Tantita, pipelines were bombed 47 times in a single year, youth unemployment in the region peaked at 62 percent, and eight communities triggered sanctions under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).

He cautioned that reverting to a fragmented, tribal security model would only serve to resurrect criminal syndicates and attract fresh PIA penalties against entire host communities.

“The PIA does not reward disunity. Section 227 imposes collective sanctions on communities for acts of sabotage. Tantita’s cross-ethnic approach not only prevents inter-communal blame games but also strengthens intelligence sharing and ensures everyone benefits from the PIA funds,” he said.

Comrade Orogun insisted that the growing criticism of Tantita Security Services is not a result of failure, but of success. “The agenda behind this criticism is simple, it’s an orchestrated attempt to return to the pre-Tantita era where elite proxies looted oil resources, youths were jobless pawns, and the system was built to hide theft behind falling production numbers.”

He said the Niger Delta faces a critical choice: to unite behind a tested model delivering security, jobs, and community development, or to fragment under the weight of tribal politics, inviting a return to oil theft, collective punishment, and entrenched poverty.

“Niger Delta’s oil sustains Nigeria,” Orogun concluded. “Only unity can sustain the Niger Delta.”
