Oborevwori’s China trip to deliver innovations in waste mgt, boost investment in Delta — Aniagwu

By Kelvin Ohoror

The Delta State Government says residents should expect game-changing benefits including innovations in waste management and increased investment attraction from Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s recent trip to China.

The State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu who accompanied the Governor on the trip, spoke at a press conference in Asaba, the state capital.

Flanked by Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Sir Festus Ahon and Executive Assistant to the Governor on Public Enlightenment (Projects and Policies), Mr Olisa Ifeajika, Aniagwu, said the invitation extended to Governor Oborevwori to attend the 16th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF) and Exhibition in Macau was based on the Delta State’s track record of delivering quality infrastructure and prompt payment of contracts.

“We were invited on account of two major policies of the Oborevwori administration. One is his nack for excellence in terms of the job that is being executed.

“Two is the very, very unprecedented approach to both project mobilization and the prompt payment of certificates that are raised genuinely.

“These are contractors across the globe who also do jobs or carry out jobs or construction work in different parts of the globe. They have seen that the Oborevwori model is good for development,” he explained.

He outlined key areas of engagement by the governor during the China trip, including partnerships of modern waste management systems, rural infrastructure development, and investment opportunities.

He said: “We saw a company that is into transforming waste materials that you could gather from dumps, which of course is available everywhere, and has become a challenge for us across the length and breadth of this country, but that you can convert it and use it to generate energy and power your homes.

“That is something of interest, and we are quite convinced in the thinking of the governor that we will advance that discussion so that we will see how possibly we can attract that kind of investment.

“We are proud to have been invited to a top-tier construction forum in Macau, China, an honor linked to Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to excellence and prompt contractor payments. These policies have gained international recognition, positioning Delta State as a model for quality infrastructure.”

He added that Governor Oborevwori’s insistence on world-class project standards impressed global players at the forum, reinforcing that all contractors in Delta must prioritize quality, further boosting confidence in the state’s transparent, results-driven governance.

“Recognition from China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), a global infrastructure giant, validates our administration’s credibility. With their vast global portfolio, CCECC’s commendation confirms that Delta meets top engineering standards.

“The forum also opened doors for partnerships, especially in waste-to-energy. These engagements aim to elevate Delta from a local player to a respected global stakeholder in sustainable development,” he added.

During the briefing, Mr. Aniagwu also reiterated that the Oborevwori administration is committed to upholding the integrity of contractual agreements.

He said: “Every contract has defined terms and a set duration, and once either party fails to meet those obligations, repudiation is both legal and necessary.

“A government focused on delivering timely infrastructure must act when projects fall behind schedule or violate terms, especially when public funds are involved.

“Several underperforming contracts have already been revoked and re-awarded, with new contractors now delivering at the expected pace. This approach ensures that Deltans receive value for money and that critical projects are not unnecessarily delayed due to inefficiency or lack of commitment from contractors.

“Going forward, any contractor failing to meet standards regardless of influence or backing will have their contract terminated.

“Governor Oborevwori is prioritizing results and service to the people, not personal interests. The administration remains firm in its resolve to ensure only capable contractors handle public projects.”

Aniagwu further said the Oborevwori administration has directed the Environment Taskforce to recover all government lands illegally occupied by individuals.

He said: “A clear example is the airport land, where encroachment threatens safety and could lead to loss of operational license. Securing the airport’s perimeter is critical to ensure safety from hazards like stray animals or fire outbreaks near the runway.

“Illegal structures have also been removed from key government areas, such as the Waterboard premises along Okpanam Road. Despite issuing warnings and providing ample notice, some individuals still erected shanties on government property.

“The administration now warns that future violators will not only be evicted but also prosecuted, as part of a broader effort to reclaim lands across all 25 local government areas.

“The government urges citizens to avoid acquiring lands without proper verification. If a government-owned property is no longer in use, the right approach is to request deacquisition through official channels not to trespass.

“Buying or building on government land without due process is a risk, as such properties will be reclaimed without compensation, regardless of personal investment.”

Oborevwori Committed to Completing Orere Bridge – Izeze

By Kelvin Ohoror

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has reaffirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to completing the Orere Bridge project, despite logistical and environmental challenges.

Speaking during an inspection visit to the bridge site, Izeze commended Obakpor Engineering, the contractor handling the project, for their steady progress.

According to him, this is the first time I have crossed the Orere River to see work beginning on the other side of the bridge. They have already completed 250 meters on one side and are approaching the remaining 250 meters on the opposite end,” he said.

However, he noted that an unexpected mechanical issue with the contractor’s barge had caused a temporary delay. “They have had an issue with their barge’s propeller, which has slowed work for the past two days. I have advised them to consider securing an alternative in the future to prevent similar setbacks,” Izeze stated.

Izeze who was accompanied on the inspection by former Commissioner in the state, Edewor Omonemu, Chief Godwin Sito, His Technical Assistant Engr Ejovi Adasen and Deputy Director Highways Engr Eghwrudje Ojarigho, emphasized the urgency of maximizing work hours before the rainy season intensifies, as forecasted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET).

“Even as we speak, the rain is threatening. We hope significant progress can be made before the rains become too heavy,” he added.

Addressing concerns about the transportation of sand from Bayelsa State, Izeze acknowledged the logistical burden. “It’s important to understand that acquiring sand from Kaiama in Bayelsa is far more expensive than sourcing it locally. The contractor has raised this with us, and we will brief His Excellency, Governor Oborevwori, so he can guide us on the next steps,” he explained.

Reflecting on the progress since his last visit, the commissioner expressed cautious optimism. “Compared to the last time I was here, there’s been notable improvement. The retaining walls are now complete. While the surface still needs compaction, it’s clear the work is moving forward. These types of projects require time, particularly to allow proper curing and settling of materials,” he said.

Also present during the inspection was the Archbishop of the Bendel Province of the Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Cyril Odutemu, who is an indigene of the Orere community. He expressed gratitude to the Delta State Government for continuing a vital project started by the previous administration.

“We thank Governor Oborevwori for continuing this audacious project. The fact that he didn’t abandon it proves that government is indeed a continuum. Without his commitment, we wouldn’t be standing here today,” the Archbishop said.

He praised Obakpor Engineering for their efforts, noting that the difficult terrain has made the work particularly challenging. “Anyone familiar with this area will understand that the pace of work here has been impressive. The only real challenge has been occasional flooding, which has slowed progress.”

Archbishop Odutemu called on residents of Orere to support the project by cooperating with the government and construction workers.

“If our people cooperate and give their full support, I am confident that, even with the rains, work can continue. By the end of this year or early next year, we will be celebrating the bridge’s completion,” he said.

The Orere Bridge project, once completed, is expected to significantly improve connectivity and economic activities in the region.

ISOPLOT is an unauthorized, illegitimate, potentially mischievous group operating in shadows – INYA President

By Kelvin Ohoror

The Isoko National Youth Assembly (INYA) President, Comrade Eniwake Orogun has described ISOPLOT as an unauthorized and potentially mischievous group operating in the shadows, lacking structure, legitimacy, or any credible standing within Isoko youth leadership.

In a statement signed and issued by  INYA leadership, the President and Secretary General, Comrade Eniwake Orogun and Governor Emumena respectively stated that while the Nigerian Constitution guarantees freedom of expression, that freedom does not grant unrecognized groups the authority to speak for the Isoko Nation.

INYA categorically disassociates the Isoko Nation from ISOPLOT’s divisive publication and warned the public to regard such statements as personal opinions with no official backing.

“It is with profound concern and a necessary sense of duty that the Isoko National Youth Assembly Worldwide (INYA Worldwide), the umbrella body representing Isoko youths globally, is compelled to address a recent publication masquerading as the voice of the Isoko people.

“We categorically denounce and disassociate the entire Isoko Nation from the press statement issued on June 16th, 2025, by an obscure entity called “Isoko Political Youth Leaders of Thought” (ISOPLOT).

“While the Nigerian constitution guarantees freedom of association and expression, this fundamental right does not confer legitimacy or authority upon any random collection of individuals to arrogate to themselves the mantle of speaking for the Isoko youths, let alone the Isoko nation.

“ISOPLOT is unknown to the Isoko socio-political structure. It possesses no mandate, no broad-based membership, and no traceable lineage within our established youth leadership frameworks. It is, at best, an unauthorized and potentially mischievous subgroup operating in the shadows”.

The core subject of the ISOPLOT statement – the INEC ward delineation exercise in Warri Metropolis – is fundamentally NOT an Isoko issue. The Isoko people are not constituents of the Warri Federal Constituency. The delineation exercise primarily concerns the territorial and political dynamics between the Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo ethnic groups within that specific geographical area.

“We are utterly perplexed by ISOPLOT’s motives in dragging the Isoko Nation into this complex inter-ethnic matter. What business does an Isoko group have dictating terms or stoking fears about ward allocations in Warri, a territory far removed from our ancestral lands and political jurisdiction? This unwarranted interference raises serious questions about ISOPLOT’s true sponsors and intentions.

“While ISOPLOT fabricates outrage over Warri, the Isoko nation has a legitimate and pressing grievance with INEC that they conveniently ignore. Prior to the last statewide delineation exercise, Isoko North Local Government Area had TWO State Constituencies. This was in recognition of our population and contribution. Shockingly and unjustly, INEC reduced Isoko North to just ONE constituency.

“This reduction is a blatant injustice, particularly for a people who contribute significantly to the national coffers, notably producing the largest volume of onshore crude oil in Nigeria. We demand the immediate restoration of our second State Constituency in Isoko North. This is the INEC and judicial matter that rightfully commands the attention and advocacy of genuine Isoko representatives, not meddling in Warri’s affairs.

“Despite our categorical rejection of ISOPLOT’s unauthorized statement and its inflammatory undertones, we recognize that heightened tensions in Warri or anywhere in Delta South have the potential for negative spillover effects. We therefore urge all parties directly involved in the Warri delineation issue – the Ijaw, Itsekiri, Urhobo communities, INEC, and relevant state and federal authorities – to engage in dialogue, exercise maximum restraint, and act with utmost caution.

“The paramount objectives must be equity, fairness, inclusion, and the preservation of the hard-won peace and progress of our dear Delta State. We stand against any actions or rhetoric that threaten this stability”.

Delta govt addressing Ndokwa electricity challenge – Aniagwu

By Kelvin Ohoror

The Delta State Government Wednesday, said it has intensified efforts to resolve the longstanding electricity challenge in Ndokwa Nation.

Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, while reacting to the recent Light Up Ndokwa Nation protests during a press conference, in Asaba, assured residents that concrete steps are being taken to provide lasting power solutions to the area.

Flanked by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon and Executive Assistant to the Governor on Public Enlightenment (Projects and Policies), Mr Olisa Ifeajika, the Commissioner said for a very long time power generation and distribution had been an exclusive preserve of the federal government.

According to him, “For a very very long time transmission remained the exclusive preserve of the federal government and that meant that even when you generate you will need to upload the power you have generated into the national grid for onward distribution to the other parts of the country.

“But over time there were some form of deregulation, started from the Jonathan administration which paid to it for some private sector players to come in and that made it possible for certain individuals in the private sector to invest in power generation and distribution.

“Only recently, certain form of liberalization have taken place and to the extent now that states can go into some form of generation and distribution but under certain conditions.

“The Okpai power project is not a state government project, we can only begin to make effort to see how we can begin to also benefit and that is ongoing.

“I am also aware the deputy governor of the state, Sir Monday Onyeme who is from the Ndokwa nation have been mandated by the governor to begin to look into how we can ensure that our brothers and sisters over there gets connected.

“They have had several meetings with them and effort is being made to deal with the challenges between the then Power Holding Company before it moved to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company as to how to settle certain outstanding liabilities so that they can begin a process of getting them reconnected to the grid.

“Because there was this absence of power that power distribution channels along that corridor being energized, it made it possible for some criminals to tamper with the power infrastructure in that corridor so which means that it’s now a question of going to provide certain power or energy infrastructure for them to be effectively connected.”

Aniagwu further clarified that Governor Oborevwori administration has done quite a lot for the Ndokwa nation and other parts of the state and appealed for patience while government addresses their concerns.

“In the last EXCO, you saw the approval of the Aboh – Akarai Road. That is a very, very challenging area and there is also a bridge along that corridor. That particular project at the end of the day will cost not less than N29 billion to be able to effectively connect our people in the Aboh – Akarai axis to their other brothers still in Ndokwa East.

“Governor Oborevwori is the one who made the move to say that, yes, these people need to be connected and so the government that is doing that has shown a whole lot of love for the people who live in that corridor.

“You are also aware of the number of roads we are carrying out in Ndokwa Nation whether it’s the over 5km Utagba-Uno – Eweshi Road, or the over 5km Ndemili-Utagba-Uno Road, still over 5km, or the Inam-Abbi Road still over 5km or the Obi-Ibabu Road, that have been completed.

“There are a number of roads within that corridor. You are also very much aware of the very speedy completion of the Beneku bridge. So that the people have now bid goodbye to the use of pontoon or certain kind of badge to convey vehicles and other items to the inner communities.

“Even when you move to Ukwuani, still in Ndokwa nation, you realize that the Amai-Aragba-Orogun road of over 8 kilometers is ongoing.

“We have concluded the Ofuegbe street in Amai and, of course, the other roads that were constructed along Obiaruku the headquarters of Ukwuani to be able to connect a particular alignment from Umutu-Eku Road. All that is happening in that federal constituency that is only in the area of roads alone.

“So we want to plead with our brothers and sisters in that corridor to begin to see the many efforts of the Oborevwori administration
towards making life much more livable for our people in that area and not to be misled by certain individuals who want to paint pictures that are completely at variance with reality.”

The Commissioner said Governor Oborevwori has done very well in the last two years in terms of infrastructure, human capital development, enhanced business security, and creating a whole lot of platforms for individuals to realize their God-given potentials,
particularly as Delta is blessed with good talents, and oil rich.

“We have continued to take advantage of that in ensuring that services are being provided, and I am happy that as partners, you have accompanied us to inspect a number of these projects across the 25 local government areas, be it in the riverine or in the upland.

“In the next two years, the Oborevwori administration is committed to doing more and that is why you saw that in our last Executive Council meeting, a number of mind-blowing projects were approved for the purpose of delivering more to our people.”

Delta Governor’s Wife Debunks Viral Video On Ugbori Quintuplets, Highlights Support

By Kelvin Ohoror

Wife of the Governor of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, has decried a trending video circulating on social media which claims that the family of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph, who recently gave birth to quintuplets, were neglected by the state government.

In a statement released by her media office on Tuesday, Deaconess Oborevwori described the video as misleading and emphasized that both her office and the Delta State Government had already rendered significant support to the family.

According to the statement, “Deaconess Oborevwori personally visited the Joseph family at their residence in the Ugbori area of Warri South Local Government Area shortly after the birth of the quintuplets.

“She was accompanied by the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Hon. Weyinmi Agbateyinro and his wife, Roli Agbateyinro.

“During the visit, Deaconess Oborevwori presented the family with cash gifts and essential materials. In addition, she handed over the keys to a fully stocked shop, based on Mrs Joseph’s request regarding the type of business she wished to operate.

“Beyond these gestures, she also paid five years’ rent for a three-bedroom flat in a decent and comfortable environment for the family”.

She noted that while calls for further assistance to the family cannot be entirely ruled out, such appeals should not be made in a manner that undermines or disregards the genuine and substantial support already provided by the state government.

Deaconess Oborevwori urged members of the public to verify information before sharing and assured that her office remains committed to supporting vulnerable families and newborns across Delta State.

Outrage in Kwale as Youths Protest Decades of Power Outage, Block Major Roads

Thousands of aggrieved youths on Monday morning stormed major roads in Kwale, the administrative headquarters of Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, protesting decades of lack of electricity, grounding vehicular movement and halting commercial activities in the town.

The protesters , expressing deep frustration over the lack of electricity in Ndokwa land for more than two decades, are demanding that the Okpai Power Plant Step-Down facility supply light to Ndokwa communities. They argue that despite the Okpai gas reserves and power installations in the area contributing significantly to the national grid, Ndokwa nation continues to languish in darkness.
The protesters, predominantly youths, have erected canopies at Ogume Junction, a strategic location along the Asaba–Kwale–Ozoro highway, effectively cutting off traffic flow between Asaba to Kwale and Kwale to Ozoro. Vehicles heading in either direction have been forced to a halt, with long queues of stranded passengers forming along the route.
A similar blockade is in place at the Technical College Junction in Kwale, where demonstrators have also mounted canopies, denying passage to vehicles traveling along the Asaba–Ughelli Road, another key transportation artery in the region.
The protest has drawn a heavy presence of military personnel and police officers, who are stationed at various points to monitor the situation. So far, there have been no reports of clashes between the protesters and security forces.
Despite the relative calm, tension is mounting in Kwale, with businesses shut down and residents expressing fear over possible escalation. All commercial activities have been brought to a standstill as the protests continue into the afternoon.
A senior police officer overseeing security operations in the area declined to comment when approached by our correspondent, instead directing inquiries to the Delta State Police Headquarters in Asaba.
The protest reflects a long-standing grievance in Ndokwa land, where residents feel marginalized and neglected, despite being host to vital energy infrastructure. Many of the demonstrators carried placards with inscriptions such as “Light Up Ndokwa Nation”, “No Light, No Peace”, and “We are tired of darkness”.
As the standoff continues, concerned residents are calling on the Delta State Government and the Federal Ministry of Power to intervene and address the demands of the protesting youths before situation spirals out of control.

OPEN MESSAGE TO ISOKO YOUTHS: Enough of the Division, Time to Unite

By Comrade Ilaya Efemena Beckly Founder/President (INPLM)

It is with a heavy heart and deep concern for the future of our beloved Isoko Nation that I write this message, not as an attack on any individual or group, but as a wake-up call to every Isoko son and daughter, especially the youth.

Let’s speak the raw truth, if not for greed, selfish ambition, and unhealthy rivalry, there is absolutely no reason why Isoko, with all our history, intellect, strength, and pride, should have so many fragmented youth organizations, all claiming to represent the youth body of isoko nation.

We have:

INYA (Isoko National Youth Assembly),

INYC (Isoko National Youth Council),

NYCN (Isoko Chapter)
IDU Youth Wing,

And others too many to mention…

Yet with all these so-called “representative bodies,” where is the unified voice of Isoko youth?
Where is our power?
Where is our presence on the national stage?

Let us compare ourselves honestly.
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) one voice, one force, commands respect across Nigeria. When they speak, the nation listens. Niger Delta leaders respond. Even at the federal level, they are recognized.

But Isoko?
We are busy dragging for position, for power, for recognition, and in the process, we’ve sacrificed unity for ego, and sold our strength for crumbs.

What legacy are we building?
What future are we preparing?
How long shall we allow petty pride, tribal sentiments, and personal gain* to tear down what our fathers built with sweat and sacrifice?

The truth is bitter, but it must be told.

Today, Isoko Youths are divided, not by ideology, not by purpose, but by self-centered leadership, rivalry over titles, and ambition without vision. Everyone wants to be “President,” “Chairman,” or “Coordinator,” but no one wants to build a lasting structure of unity and progress.

This is not just shameful.
It is a betrayal of our heritage and an insult to the elders who entrusted this generation with the future of Isoko land.

Until we drop our selfish interests and personal battles, Isoko will continue to be ignored, both politically and economically. We will be overlooked in appointments, development projects, and national conversations, not because we lack talent, but because we lack unity.

We need to ask ourselves:

What is the point of having ten youth groups if none can deliver real results for the Isoko people?

Why are we so proud of titles and uniforms, but silent on key issues affecting our land?
Why is there no central youth agenda, no active advocacy, no strong leadership voice, when other ethnic youth bodies are pushing development for their people?

This must change, and the change starts with you and me.

We must set aside ego, titles, and factions.
We must return to the drawing board and build one, strong, united Isoko Youth Movement that carries the hopes and aspirations of our land. Let us stop selling ourselves short. Let us start fighting for our land, our future, and our dignity.

To the various youth leaders and groups reading this, the time for division is over.
The time for unity, strategy, and purpose has come. History will not be kind to those who continue to hold Isoko back in the name of leadership.

Let us rise. Let us unite. Let us lead, not just in name, but in truth, vision, and action.
