The Executive Director of Nathan Osume Foundation and Senatorial candidate of the National Democratic Party for Delta Central Senatorial seat in upcoming 2027 elections, Mr. Nathan Esiri Osume has applauded the Nigerian security agencies for the successful rescue of schoolchildren and teachers who were kidnapped by bandits in Oriire Local Government Area of the state and held captive for 57 days.

Osume described their safe return as a moment of relief for Nigerians, even as he charged the Nigerian government to strengthen the country’s security architecture to ensure the lives of citizens are protected as guaranteed by the 1999 constitution (as ammended).

According to Osume, amid the momentum of celebration across the country, the persistent threat of school abductions serves as a critical indicator that nationwide security measures must be urgently enhanced.

“The recurring incidents of kidnapping, particularly of schoolchildren, highlights the urgent need to overhaul the nation’s security system and prioritize public safety as the government’s primary obligation,” he stated.

Osume added, “Our children deserve to learn in an atmosphere of safety, not fear. We must continue to work towards building a Nigeria where every child can pursue education without the threat of violence or abduction.”

Osume shared in the joy of the pupils, their families, schools, and the nation. At the same time, he extended his deepest condolences to the family of Michael Oyedokun, the teacher who was killed, praising his immense courage and ultimate sacrifice.
He urged both the Oyo State and Federal governments not to let the deceased’s sacrifice go unnoticed, but rather to honour his memory in the most fitting way possible.

Recall that on May 15, 2026, 46 students and teachers were abducted from schools in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The incident sparked widespread public outrage, triggering urgent nationwide demands for the Nigerian government and security forces to rescue the victims from their captors.
