OZORO: OPU Executive, PG Bicker Over Resource Control

The Ozoro Progress Union (OPU) Executive members, the apex administrative organ of Ozoro kingdom and the President General, Odio Beckley Asiafa, over alledge greviances ranging from high handedness and usurping of other elected officers duties by the PGs personal secretary.

The allegations also include alledged compromising of OPUs official documents, inappropriate allotment of slots of Tantita Security Services Nig. Ltd and diversion of the proceeds from the kingdom’s assets.
Insider sources accused the PG Odio of failing and in defiance of advices and voices of reasoning on the removal of his personal secretary, one Joy Johnson, alleged as the perpetrator and arrow head of the maladminisration of the PG amongst other complaints.

Speaking to our reporters, another insider who do not want his name on print for fear of victimisation, alledged “that the community had maintained a bank account but did not have any money to the community’s credit anywhere ”

He added that “under the Asiafa’s regime, things have changed, particularly the non uniformity of the rent from hiring the Opute Hall against the statutory fixed amount as well as the proceeds from such hirings going into private hands”.

It was further alleged that “the PG’s personal secretary has become so powerful to the extent of being placed in charge of all income generating assets of the kingdom; usurping the functions of other elected executive officers, which the PG made possible”.

According to very reliable inside sources, “the job slot opportunities provided by Tantita Security Ltd were reportedly distributed arbitrarily by Asiafa, with his personal secretary; a non indegene contrary to the practice of the Union.

The secretary is alledged to having two slots from the 34 slots awarded to the kingdom, equal with the elected officers.
When contacted Odio Asiafa explained that , “I find some of those write up very funny because if you are not close to people you will never understand them but thank you for even letting me know that some people have this opinion in the kingdom. But I am hundred percent sure of the person that did all these things. One, he must be a member of my exco or two, a member of the former exco”.

“Number one, we don’t have drilling in Ozoro. So if I’m not prudent, the little money we get from Opute hall and rent, we will run into problems. To take care of this kingdom, to take care of the people, to take care of salaries and other recurrent expenditure is almost a million Naira plus every month and hardly do we meet up.

“Sometimes, we have to go borrowing to pay, then when something comes l, we pay back. So if I don’t run the Kingdom like that, we will run into big problem. A lot of people just think when we come up, it is an avenue to make plenty of money.

“Oh let’s make money, oil drilling is around and go”. So when we don’t have a rig coming in yet, a lot of people are disappointed that we are not making enough money just the way the last one did. So that is the problem with some of the excos and some people in some families.

“We’ve been on for a year and six months and we don’t have drilling coming in. Ozoro kingdom does not get money from any company monthly; we don’t get money from NNPC monthly. We look for money to run the Kingdom and where do we get the money? My personal Gift?. People come visiting me; they give me kola, they give me money, they support kola for me and I use all that to run the Kingdom and take care of myself.

“The renting of Opute hall which is N250,000 and it is not that we get all the weekends every month. It might be two times in a month or once a month. The outside wing is N60,000 while the inside is N250,000.

“The rent in the plazas, the one near Unity bank is N80,000/N100,000 and it is not fully booked. This other one behind Opute is something else. People don’t stay there and the place is not really moving. So, it is less than N100,000 a year.

“So where do we get money from? Plants, gifts and sometimes I have to send my Secretary General to even borrow. I have to tell my Vice, “ please give us some money , we will give you back when we have”, that is how we have been running the government. I can’t meet anybody for money except my EXCO or when the information gets out, it will be very bad. But so far so good, we are expecting SEPCO and Sterling Global to come and start drilling.

On the allegations concerning his personal secretary, the PG stated that “Another aspect is my personal secretary as it is called, the Secretary is not Ozoro’s Secretary. It is President General’s Secretary; confidential Secretary. In the constitution of Ozoro, any person that is born by an Ozoro father and mother, Father or mother-in-law, By marriage; is an Ozoro citizen.

“My personal Secretary has 3 children for an Ozoro man. She schooled in this Ozoro. Their father is from Ozoro; from Erovie, meaning the woman is an Ozoro woman. Even if she is from Kwale, who have children for an Ozoro man from Erovie , she is an Ozoro person. It is in the constitution of Ozoro.

“Before I even took her, I went to the constitution of people who call themselves citizens of this kingdom. Her children are Ozoro, her man is an Ozoro man, so she is an Ozoro woman.

“Then you talked about the money we realize from Opute hall. The money is paid directly into the community account. Because she is the Secretary, she is always in the office. From 9am-5pm. We don’t stay in the office everyday. It will be proper when people go to the hall or the small one, they should meet somebody. One of the reasons I said she should be in the office to take care of people coming to do attestation; to book any of the halls and to pay the rent into Opute account in any of the account in Zenith bank, First Bank or Unity bank.

“That is her job. To be in the office, Monday to Friday, 9 o’clock. So she is not the one controlling the Opute hall because she must call me “ oga somebody want to pay for the hall”. I will write it in my diary, the particular date, then instruct the person to pay the money into our account. After the payment, I will now call her back to issue the receipt.

“The money does not go to her at all. I can’t remember any money going to her. We don’t have money, we don’t have drilling, we don’t have enough money to run the Kingdom. So why allow somebody to take money from that place? Tufiakwa.

“Then you talked about Tantita Security Services Nig. Ltd. Yes when Tantita came, you know, the salary I was paying her was N30,000. She was the only girl in the office. Since she was responsible for cleaning the office, buying soap, buying toiletries and co, we now felt, okay, if we don’t pay her, if we put her in Tantita pay roll, she will be able to buy broom, tissue paper, soap for the cleaning of the offices and the staircase and everything. But after two months, Tantita Security Services Nig. Ltd now said “No, a woman can not go to the pipeline.

“So since last year, Tantita removed her name. In all, the 34 people that did that broad, she has no slot at all. Not one. She doesn’t even know any person. They removed Newyear, Jahswill and her. They were in Tantita before but they removed everybody. They even removed the person Egware brought.

“I didn’t bother because Tantita explained to me. The people in Tantita; I told my EXCOS to bring one person, I checked the Kingdom and vulnerable people, old Chiefs to bring one person. The Youth President then had 2-3 slots, Ewheyalogbo of Ozoro kingdom brought two people and Opasco brought 2-3 people at the regime of Tantita. Me as PG, I brought my brother, my cousin brother. So let nobody say that she has two slots or half slot. She has no slot with Tantita. Those are lies.

“A personal Secretary or a confidential Secretary is someone that can keep secrets of what we did in the kingdom. There are so many reasons to employ a Confidential Secretary. We have the negative things of employing somebody that is confidential and someone that is open. We have the choice of taking someone who can leak documents while typing information to the outside world and people that can keep such. It is the right of the PG to pick who can keep vital information of the Kingdom from the outside world.

“That is one of the reasons. So my Secretary has no powers to challenge any of my exco members. The only thing is that some people in the kingdom, instead of coming to see me to get information from me, they will go to my Secretary to try to get information from her and when she gets hostile, they tag her as a bad person.

“I know one, two, three persons that approached her, trying to bribe her with money to get letters or information about certain things in the kingdom and she refused. In so doing, most people want her dead. Most people want her head cut off. Most people want her sacked. But in most cases, as an Odio who has seen so many cases for the past 9 years, I check merits and demerits of every complain before I take decisions.

“I have been dealing with so many things in the kingdom you know, as an Odio who has wisdom. We have so many problems in the kingdom especially with oil families. I know what to do. But they always say, “if you are a Warrior, show your strength outside your home. Not your home.

“I am someone who has contacts everywhere but I use my contacts for positive things not negative things. If I am someone who has contacts everywhere, from Police, Army, Navy, everything because I know you know by now most of my friends who went to the Army, they got to the rank of General. Most of my classmates, they got to the rank of IG and AIG. They might not be in service now because they are all retired because they are all above 60 which is my age group.

They have children who are in power now but I can’t use such to oppress my people because I came to develop Ozoro. I came to do infrastructure. I cane to develop schools, give scholarships and not to fight people.

” I am a soft person. If you see me, I don’t carry security men. I don’t have boys who will follow me anywhere I go to. In most cases, when you see me outside in parties, I walk alone just with my PA because I’m a simple man. So, let nobody come to the kingdom to say I stole money or my Secretary stole money, my Vice or my Secretary General or my Assistant Secretary General.

“I just saw something that I gave the work of some EXCO members to my Secretary. Apart from the work of Opute hall, what other work does she do? That work was given to Odiri, my daughter who died last year. We gave it to Odiri and Odiri did it effectively, efficiently. When we lost her, I gave it to Geneza but Geneza was not readily available.

“There was one issue. Geneza is my cousin from Adokpe. Geneza is my younger brother from Adokpe. We are from the same Adokpe family. He is my blood. To avoid scandal, to avoid quarrel, I took it from Geneza and gave it to my Secretary. Transparency because when I gave it to Geneza a lot of people were raising eyebrows that I empowered my junior brother and co. I now said okay. I left Geneza who is my younger brother I now said let me do it myself and I have been doing it myself. There is no money coming from it that is leaking anywhere because they pay directly into Opute account in Zenith bank or in Unity bank. So I didn’t give anybody job.

The PG added that, “Assistant Secretary is where we have loads of Secretary General’s work; writing of minutes or representing the Secretary General or representing me in places. You know, I called Godwin Ewhorefa to do it. Edomoye is fine in Asaba. In most cases when we have anything in Asaba, I call him. Robinson is always in town. I am not saying I am 100% perfect. While calling for caution, he said “I have Ozoro constitution with me. Let every member of the exco read their functions- what they are suppose to do. Let them read it. I am very very experienced and learned. I have worked in government and in private sector. Let every person read his or her functions in that Ozoro book-our laws.
“I’m not doing anybody’s job. My confidential Secretary is not doing anybody’s job. I’m the one handling Opute hall. Apart from handling Opute hall, I don’t see anything she is doing. Giving letter of attestation to people is Secretary General’s not PG’s work. It is suppose to be Secretary’s job. Secretary General is in charge of that.

“What else is she doing? Putting on generator, typing of letters, receiving information for me and co. What else is she doing in the kingdom? Please eh, people should not spoil me. I just think there is a Jezebel somewhere trying to put problem in a place where we do not have any problem. The reason I said ask the Vice President, ask Secretary General, ask Assistant Secretary General, ask any person, ask Jege and Co.

“Some people just feel, oh the last regime, money was coming in from the rig” but I keep saying it, no money come from Okpaile. Since I entered this regime I have not received N1,000 from Okpaile. I have not. NPDC Warri have not paid Ozoro kingdom N1,000.

“Some people feel we get monthly allocation from Okpaile or from NPDC Warri or the state government. I source for money 100% to run this kingdom. It is from this agreed money that we sat down in Ozoro conference and we said any person buying property in this kingdom should pay some percentage. We started from saying let’s pay 20%, some people said 10%, some said 8% while others said 7%.

“But at the conference where we had the 5 organs of the kingdom, we all agreed that for any person to buy a property which is called Physical and Structural Planning fee, the person should pay 10% of the sum of that property. That is not the deve government banned o. This one is for the IGR of the kingdom where we get money to run the Kingdom and that office is the office of the Town Planner not PG. It is only when the Town Planner has issues that I will step in.

“Everybody in Ozoro came together in our conference. I am sorry for those who did not attend the conference but we came together as a kingdom and we agreed that any property sold, 10% of the money should be paid into the kingdom’s account for the day to day running of the kingdom.

That is not the deve government banned. Government banned a situation where youths or five people from the street or Chiefs or Edio will go and harass people, companies, investors who came to Delta State to develop the state but this one we all agreed.

Ozoro Abattoir in Deplorable State, Butchers Accuse Isoko North Council of Neglect, Abandonment

By Clara Obialazor

Butchers and Executive members of the Ozoro Abattoir have raised alarm over the deplorable state of the facility, accusing the Isoko North Local Government Council Authority of total neglect and abandonment.
The leadership traced the failure of the facility to alleged substandard execution of the contract in the use of lower quality of materials ranging from sizes of rods, poles, poor flooring amongst other job execution inadequacies by one of the past Presidents-General of the Ozoro kingdom, Hon. Miller Akpoili, who did not do the work to the required specifications leading to the dilapidation of the infrastructure.
They therefore called on the Isoko North Local Government Authority for immediate intervention to restore a functional solar water supply, electricity, cage and repairs of the slaughter fence to prevent the risk of loosing their cattles.
The Chairman Mr. Mike Akpoili, from Erovie community, lamented that the lack of proper drainage has left cow blood and dirty water stagnant, creating a foul smell in the area.
“There is no gutter for water to flow, so everything remains here and stinks. This is dangerous to public health”, he stated.
Speaking to our reporters, the former Chairman of the abattoir, Mr Lucky Ilugba, said the situation has made work difficult for the butchers, stating that several letters of complaints have been written to the chairman of the Council without any response whatever as he has remained insensitive to the plight of butchers.
“We have no water, no light and the fence is destroyed. We need urgent help to fix these problems”, he lamented.
Also speaking, the Youth chairman, Mr Paul Felix added that the slaughter gound itself is dilapidated and should be reconstructed for safety and hygiene.
The butchers collectively appealed to the Local Government Council Authority to live up to her responsibility by renovating the abattoir, construct proper gutters, provide water and electricity and create a safer, more hygienic environment for both workers and consumers.
All attempts to get the Council’s side of the report as at the time of filing this report, were not successful.

By Kelvin Ohoror

Ukodhiko made the call on Thursday after paying a courtesy visit to one of Isoko’s foremost leaders and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Daniel Omoyibo, the Omoghagha of Isoko Nation, at his office in Oleh.

The federal lawmaker, who described Omoyibo as a respected son of Isoko and a pillar of development, said the visit was both fraternal and purposeful.

“Although the visit was a friendly one, we also seized the opportunity to discuss Isoko politics and the progress made so far, and I received his brotherly advice,” Ukodhiko stated.

National Broadcast By His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the 65th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria, October 1, 2025

Fellow Nigerians,

Today marks the 65th anniversary of our great nation’s Independence. As we reflect on the significance of this day and our journey of nationhood since October 1, 1960, when our founding fathers accepted the instruments of self-government from colonial rule, let us remember their sacrifice, devotion, and grand dream of a strong, prosperous, and united Nigeria that will lead Africa and be the beacon of light to the rest of the world.

2. Our founding heroes and heroines—Herbert Macaulay, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Margaret Ekpo, Anthony Enahoro, Ladoke Akintola, Michael Okpara, Aminu Kano, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, and other nationalists—believed it was Nigeria’s manifest destiny to lead the entire black race as the largest black nation on earth.

3. For decades, the promise of our Independence has been tested by profound social, economic, and political challenges, and we have survived.  While we may not have achieved all the lofty dreams of our forebearers, we have not strayed too far from them. In 65 years since our Independence, we have made tremendous progress in economic growth, social cohesion, and physical development. Our economy has experienced significant growth since 1960.

4. Although, it is much easier for those whose vocation is to focus solely on what ought to be, we must recognise and celebrate our significant progress. Nigerians today have access to better education and healthcare than in 1960. At Independence, Nigeria had 120 secondary schools with a student population of about 130,000. Available data indicate that, as of year 2024, there were more than 23,000 secondary schools in our country. At Independence, we had only the University of Ibadan and Yaba College of Technology as the two tertiary institutions in Nigeria. By the end of last year, there were 274 universities, 183 Polytechnics, and 236 Colleges of Education in Nigeria, comprising Federal, State, and private institutions. We have experienced a significant surge in growth across every sector of our national life since Independence – in healthcare, infrastructure, financial services, manufacturing, telecommunications, information technology, aviation and defence, among others.

5. Our country has experienced both the good and the bad times in its 65 years of nationhood, as is normal for every nation and its people. We fought a bitter and avoidable civil war, experienced military dictatorships, and lived through major political crises. In all these, we weathered every storm and overcame every challenge with courage, grit, and uncommon determination. While our system and ties that bind us are sometimes stretched by insidious forces opposed to our values and ways of life, we continue to strive to build a more perfect union where every Nigerian can find better accommodation and find purpose and fulfilment.
6. Fellow Compatriots, this is the third time I will address you on our independence anniversary since I assumed office as your President on May 29, 2023. In the last 28 months of my administration, like our founding fathers and leaders who came before me, I have committed myself irrevocably to the unfinished nation-building business.

7. Upon assuming office, our administration inherited a near-collapsed economy caused by decades of fiscal policy distortions and misalignment that had impaired real growth. As a new administration, we faced a simple choice: continue business as usual and watch our nation drift, or embark on a courageous, fundamental reform path. We chose the path of reform. We chose the path of tomorrow over the comfort of today. Less than three years later, the seeds of those difficult but necessary decisions are bearing fruit.

8. In resetting our country for sustainable growth, we ended the corrupt fuel subsidies and multiple foreign exchange rates that created massive incentives for a rentier economy, benefiting only a tiny minority. At the same time, the masses received little or nothing from our Commonwealth. Our administration has redirected the economy towards a more inclusive path, channelling money to fund education, healthcare, national security, agriculture, and critical economic infrastructure, such as roads, power, broadband, and social investment programmes. These initiatives will generally improve Nigerians’ quality of life. As a result of the tough decisions we made, the Federal and State governments, including Local Governments, now have more resources to take care of the people at the lower level of the ladder, to address our development challenges.

9. Fellow Nigerians, we are racing against time. We must build the roads we need, repair the ones that have become decrepit, and construct the schools our children will attend and the hospitals that will care for our people. We have to plan for the generations that will come after us. We do not have enough electricity to power our industries and homes today, or the resources to repair our deteriorating roads, build seaports, railroads, and international airports comparable to the best in the world, because we failed to make the necessary investments decades ago. Our administration is setting things right.
10. I am pleased to report that we have finally turned the corner. The worst is over, I say. Yesterday’s pains are giving way to relief. I salute your endurance, support, and understanding. I will continue to work for you and justify the confidence you reposed in me to steer the ship of our nation to a safe harbour.

11. Under our leadership, our economy is recovering fast, and the reforms we started over two years ago are delivering tangible results. The second quarter 2025 Gross Domestic Product grew by 4.23%—Nigeria’s fastest pace in four years—and outpaced the 3.4 per cent projected by the International Monetary Fund. Inflation declined to 20.12% in August 2025, the lowest level in three years. The administration is working diligently to boost agricultural production and ensure food security, reducing food costs.
12. In the last two years of our administration, we have achieved 12 remarkable economic milestones as a result of the implementation of our sound fiscal and monetary policies:

i. We have attained a record-breaking increase in non-oil revenue, achieving the 2025 target by August with over N20 trillion. In September 2025 alone, we raised N3.65 trillion, 411% higher than the amount raised in May 2023.
ii. We have restored Fiscal Health: Our debt service-to-revenue ratio has been significantly reduced from 97% to below 50%. We have paid down the infamous “Ways and Means” advances that threatened our economic stability and triggered inflation. Following the removal of the corruptpetroleum subsidy, we have freed up trillions of Naira for targeted investment in the real economy and social programmes for the most vulnerable, as well as all tiers of government.
iii. We have a stronger foreign Reserve position than three years ago. Our external reserves increased to $42.03 billion this September—the highest since 2019.

iv. Our tax-to-GDP ratio has risen to 13.5 per cent from less than 10 per cent. The ratio is expected to increase further when the new tax law takes effect in January. The tax law is not about increasing the burden on existing taxpayers but about expanding the base to build the Nigeria we deserve and providing tax relief to low-income earners.
v. We are now a Net Exporter: Nigeria has recorded a trade surplus for five consecutive quarters. We are now selling more to the world than we are buying, a fundamental shift that strengthens our currency and creates jobs at home. Nigeria’s trade surplus increased by 44.3% in Q2 2025 to ₦7.46 trillion ($4.74 billion), the largest in about three years. Goods manufactured in Nigeria and exported jumped by 173%. Non-oil exports, as a component of our export trade, now represent 48 per cent, compared to oil exports, which account for 52 per cent. This signals that we are diversifying our economy and foreign exchange sources outside oil and gas.

vi. Oil production rebounded to 1.68 million barrels per day from barely one million in May 2023. The increase occurred due to improved security, new investments, and better stakeholder management in the Niger Delta. Furthermore, the country has made notable advancements by refining PMS domestically for the first time in four decades. It has also established itself as the continent’s leading exporter of aviation fuel.
vii. The Naira has stabilised from the turbulence and volatility witnessed in 2023 and 2024. The gap between the official rate and the unofficial market has reduced substantially, following FX reforms and fresh capital and remittance inflows. The multiple exchange rates, which fostered corruption and arbitrage, are now part of history. Additionally, our currency rate against the dollar is no longer determined by fluctuations in crude oil prices.

viii. Under the social investment programme to support poor households and vulnerable Nigerians, N330 billion has been disbursed to eight million households, many of whom have received either one or two out of the three tranches of the N25,000 each.

ix. Coal mining recovered dramatically from a 22% decline in Q1 to 57.5% growth in Q2, becoming one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing sectors. The solid mineral sector is now pivotal in our economy, encouraging value-added production of minerals extracted from our soil.

x. The administration is expanding transport infrastructure across the country, covering rail, roads, airports, and seaports. Rail and water transport grew by over 40% and 27%, respectively. The 284-kilometre Kano-Kastina-Maradi Standard Gauge rail project and the Kaduna-Kano rail line are nearing completion. Work is progressing well on the legacy Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto-BadagryHighway. The Federal Executive Council recently approved $3 billion to complete the Eastern Rail Project.

xi. The world is taking notice of our efforts. Sovereign credit rating agencies have upgraded their outlook for Nigeria, recognising our improved economic fundamentals. Our stock market is experiencing an unprecedented boom, rising from an all-share index of 55,000 points in May 2003 to 142,000 points as of September 26, 2025.

xii. At its last MPC meeting, the Central Bank slashed interest rates for the first time in five years, expressing confidence in our country’s macroeconomic stability.

SECURITY:

13. We are working diligently to enhance national security, ensuring our economy experiences improved growth and performance. The officers and men of our armed forces and other security agencies are working tirelessly and making significant sacrifices to keep us safe. They are winning the war against terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes. We see their victories in their blood and sweat to stamp out Boko Haram Terror in North-East, IPOB/ESN terror in South East and banditry and kidnapping. We must continue to celebrate their gallantry and salute their courage on behalf of a grateful nation. Peace has returned to hundreds of our liberated communities in North-West and North-East, and thousands of our people have returned safely to their homes.

YOUTH:

14. I have a message for our young people. You are the future and the greatest assets of this blessed country. You must continue to dream big, innovate, and conquer more territories in your various fields of science, technology, sports, and the art and creative sector. Our administration, through policies and funding, will continue to give you wings to fly sky-high.  We created NELFUND to support students with loans for their educational pursuits. Approximately 510,000 students across 36 states and the FCT have benefited from this initiative, covering 228 higher institutions. As of September 10, the total loan disbursed was N99.5 billion, while the upkeep allowance stood at N44.7 billion.

15. Credicorp, another initiative of our administration, has granted 153,000 Nigerians N30 billion affordable loans for vehicles, solar energy, home upgrades, digital devices, and more.

16. YouthCred, which I promised last June, is a reality, with tens of thousands of NYSC members now active beneficiaries of consumer credit for resettlement.

17. Under our Renewed Hope Agenda, we promised to build a Nigeria where every young person, regardless of background, has an equitable opportunity to access a better future—thus, the Investment in Digital and Creative Enterprises (iDICE) programme. The Bank of Industry is driving the programme,  in collaboration with the African Development Bank, the French Development Agency, and the Islamic Development Bank. This initiative is at the cusp of implementation. Over the last two years, we have collaborated with our partners to launch the programme, supporting our young builders and dreamers in the technology and creative sectors.

A MESSAGE OF HOPE

18. Fellow Nigerians, I have always candidly acknowledged that these reforms have come with some temporary pains. The biting effects of inflation and the rising cost of living remain a significant concern to our government. However, the alternative of allowing our country to descend into economic chaos or bankruptcy was not an option. Our macro-economic progress has proven that our sacrifices have not been in vain. Together, we are laying a new foundation cast in concrete, not on quicksand.

19. The accurate measure of our success will not be limited to economic statistics alone, but rather in the food on our families’ tables, the quality of education our children receive, the electricity in our homes, and the security in our communities. Let me assure you of our administration’s determination to ensure that the resources we have saved and the stability we have built are channelled into these critical areas. Today,  the governors at the state level, and the local government autonomy are yielding more developments.

20. Therefore, on this 65th Anniversary of Our Independence, my message is hope and a call to action. The federal government will continue to do its part to fix the plumbing in our economy. Now, we must all turn on the taps of productivity, innovation, and enterprise, just like the Ministry of Interior has done with our travel passports, by quickening the processing. In this regard, I urge the sub-national entities to join us in nation-building.  Let us be a nation of producers, not just consumers. Let us farm our land and build factories to process our produce. Let us patronise ‘Made-in-Nigeria’ goods. I say Nigeria first. Let us pay our taxes.

21. Finally, let all hands be on deck. Let us believe, once more, in the boundless potential of our great nation.

22. With Almighty God on our side, I can assure you that the dawn of a new, prosperous, self-reliant Nigeria is here.

23. Happy 65th Independence Anniversary, and may God continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Amen.

NPFL: Warri Wolves Suffers Home Defeat, Trashed By Shooting Stars 1-2

By Marvis Osiobe-Eterigho

Warri Wolves Football Club yesterday suffered a home defeat as they lost 1-2 to the visiting Shooting Stars Sports Football Club on the Day 6 match played at the Southern Delta University Stadium, Ozoro.

The match which was goalless at the first half came alive in the second half when player 31, Igbimi scored a goal at the 54th minute.

Just when the game was coming to an end, 3SC took a two-goal lead as player 12, Qatar Adegoke scored at the 82nd minute and player 7, Adams Agba’a scored at the 86th minute.
According to Coach Aluma Napoleon of the Warri Wolves, “Tactically, the game was a beating because even though a keeper is going to catch the ball, the defenders are suppose to react.

“A quick reaction would have saved the two situations. But it is still part of the game. You lose some, you win some and you draw some” he added.

However, the Warri Wolves coach congratulated the 3SC team stating that it was a well deserved win.

“A team can win anywhere. With this confidence, I believe we are going to win in our next match against the Barau FC but first, we will correct our flaws before going out to fight”.

Speaking to our correspondent, the 3SC coach, Coach Aweroro Nurudeen said substituting players was part of the game plan.

“Of course every coach would want to win all matches. It was part of the game plan to sub in Adams towards the end of the game.

“I feel so excited. Today we played a strong transition game and we were clinical on the attacks. I’m happy we won”, he stated.

DTSG sacks, demotes health workers for extorting pregnant women

The Delta State Government has dismissed several health workers found guilty of extorting money from pregnant women and children under five, despite the state’s free healthcare policy for these groups. Others were demoted for related offences.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joseph Onojaeme, disclosed this on Friday during the flag-off of the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation and Initiatives Project Action Plan at Ashaka, in Ndokwa East Local Government Area.

He said the ministry had intensified monitoring of hospitals to ensure that funds released for maternal and child healthcare were properly utilised.

“Health workers in the state have done well, but in every twelve, there is a Judas. We have received reports of some collecting money from pregnant women and children under five for drugs, while still forwarding the bills to the government for payment,” Onojaeme stated.

The commissioner stressed that the state covers the medical expenses of all pregnant women until delivery, as well as free treatment for children under five.

“We have demoted some of these fraudulent workers and sacked many within this short period. With continuous monitoring and the support of mothers, these practices will reduce,” he added.

Onojaeme urged residents to report any health worker demanding payment for maternal or child care, noting that the phone number of the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Health Monitoring would be made public for such reports.
