NUIS President Urges Students To Preserve Isoko Language

... Calls for revival of Isoko cultural heritage

The President of the National Union of Isoko Students (NUIS) worldwide, Comrade Okposo Godstime Odafe, has called on Isoko Student at the Southern Delta University (SDU), Ozoro and beyond to preserve the Isoko native language and cultural heritage amid concerns over its declining use among young people.

He gave this charge last weekend during one of the union’s activities, stressing that unity among students is essential to keep Isoko traditions alive and strengthening their cultural identity.

Comrade Okposo added that NUIS was established to unite Isoko students, protect their interests and promote their academic, personal and leadership development.

He said the union provides a platform for students to connect support to one another and contribute positively to society.

Highlighting the union achievements, the President listed the promotion of unity, support for students welfare, cultural and social programmes and opportunities for leadership development.

The NUIS President identified the declining use of the isoko language among students and financial constraints as major challenges facing the union and its members.

He also said the union had organized health awareness programmes, including campaigns to educate secondary school students about Hepatitis B.

Furthermore, he added that NUIS has planned to organize more awareness programmmes for students and community leaders.

Speaking on his vision for the union, Comrade Okposo said he hoped to build a stronger organization that promotes unity, academic excellence, cultural preservation and leadership development.

He urged Isoko students who had not joined the union to become members, saying that working together would make them stronger and help preserve their language and culture.
