The Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojame, has extended generous empowerment support to residents across Isoko North Local Government Area, marking his birthday with a community-focused programme held on Friday at his hometown, Ovrode in Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State.
The items distributed include 10 Tricycles for women, 23 Motorcycles for men, 10 Cargo brand tricycles, 10 3.5KVA Generators, 10 Solar lighting systems, and 10 Solar-powered refrigerators complete with panels, in addition to cash grants of N50,000 each to 300 individuals.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Onojame emphasised that the initiative is apolitical and has been a longstanding tradition, not a new development as he assumed office.
”This empowerment is not something I began because I was appointed Commissioner for Health; I have been doing this in this community long before now. I have organised free medical outreach here to mark my birthdays in previous years. I do not believe in spending lavishly on parties. I would rather direct those resources toward uplifting the lives of those who truly need support,” he stated.
He explained that the items provided were determined following a comprehensive needs assessment exercise across the area.
”Last year, we provided cash support to over 130 beneficiaries. This year, we expanded our scope after consulting widely with our people. Many told us transporting farm produce to markets was a major challenge—hence the provision of cargo tricycles. Market women noted difficulties preserving fish and meat, so we supplied solar-powered deep freezers. Others highlighted a lack of reliable electricity to run small businesses, which guided our provision of solar generators and lighting systems,” he added.
Urging those in attendance to be patient and supportive of one another, he assured that support would reach more people in due course.
”No empowerment programme anywhere in the world can reach everyone at the same time. Celebrate with today’s beneficiaries, for your opportunity may come tomorrow,” he remarked.
Dr. Onojame also appealed for continued support for all the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates at the Federal, State and Local Government levels.
”Our President has performed commendably and has ensured resources are available for the State Government to deliver development. Both state and local governments have also made significant efforts. I urge you all to support our candidates—President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; our Governor and my Principal, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori; the Delta South Senatorial candidate, Sen. Joel Onowakpo; the House of Representatives candidate, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko; and the two House of Assembly candidates, Engr. Ashakah Orobosa and Chief Frank Ozue,” he said.
In his remarks, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, Member and candidate for Isoko Federal Constituency, described the Commissioner as a trusted ally and pillar of support.
”I am deeply grateful to the Health Commissioner, my brother, staunchest supporter and trusted confidant for his continued service to our people,” he said.
He also commended the Governor for creating an enabling environment for such community-driven initiatives.
”I extend my profound gratitude to our distinguished Governor, an exceptional leader of great integrity who has repositioned Delta State for progress, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori. Without his support and leadership, such impactful programmes would not be possible,” Ukodhiko acknowledged.
Reaffirming the people’s commitment to the party, he added: “In Isoko land, the APC is the party of choice, as we clearly demonstrated during the Governor’s campaign visit yesterday. I am confident that by the 2027 elections, the people of Isoko will once again show their overwhelming support. Your votes are invaluable; let us ensure Isoko leads all ethnic groups in Delta State in support for the APC.”
Also speaking, Engr. Orobosa Uzuazomaro Ashakah, APC candidate for Isoko North Constituency I in the House of Assembly, affirmed the party’s dominant standing in the area and urged total backing at the polls.
”Our message is clear: in Isoko North and South, the APC is the only recognised political party. Any other presence here does not represent our people’s aspirations. I call on you all to deliver a clean sweep—five out of five seats to the APC. This will guarantee the robust federal support our people deserve, in contrast to the limited assistance we received during our time under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” he stated.
One of the beneficiaries, simply identified as Ofano, expressed profound gratitude, noting the support would transform his livelihood.
”This motorcycle will serve as the foundation of a new business for me. I will use it to provide transport services and improve my family’s economic condition. May God continue to bless our Commissioner,” he said.
