The Ozoro Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force has called for improved manpower, operational equipment and mobility to enable its personnel respond more effectively to emergencies and combat crime in the area.
The call was made by Barr. Joseph Ekwebeleme, Officer-in-Charge, Legal Department, Ozoro, during an interview with our correspondent in Ozoro, Isoko North local government area of Delta State.
Ekwebeleme said the command was constrained by inadequate operational equipment and lack of proper mobility, adding that the inadequacies had affected officers’ ability to respond promptly to emergency calls from residents and carry out effective policing operations.
He urged the government to provide the command with adequate security equipment, including Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and operational vehicles, to improve surveillance and facilitate effective policing within the area.
Speaking further, Barr. Ekwebeleme lamented the shortage of operational equipment, saying officers were ready and willing to perform their duties but lacked the necessary tools to effectively carry out their responsibilities.
He appealed to relevant authorities to equip the command adequately, stressing that improved logistics and modern policing equipment would enhance the command’s effectiveness in maintaining peace and security in Ozoro
Also speaking, Inspector Godsower Tugen, also of the Legal Department, Ozoro Area Command, said the area had remained relatively peaceful in recent months, noting that the major cases recorded were mainly land disputes involving families, some of which had resulted in physical confrontations and injuries.
Tugen, however, advised residents to remain law-abiding and assist the police by reporting suspected criminal activities, strange movements and gatherings that could threaten peace in the community.
He stressed the importance of cooperation between the police and residents in preventing crime, adding that timely information from members of the public could help security personnel respond to potential threats before they escalate.
