The Southern Delta University (SDU), Ozoro, Delta State, has commenced the online processing of applications for hostel accommodation for the 2026/2027 academic session, urging students to apply for bed spaces and pay for accommodation without first settling their school fees.
The university’s management made the diclosure in separate bulletins issued on October 22 and October 28, 2026.
According to the official bulletin, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunny Awhefeada, approved the opening of the hostel application portal, stating that allowing students to access the portal without prior payment of school fees was intended to reduce the financial pressure caused by the prevailing economic situation in the country.
On the processing of the application, the bulletin further noted that interested students are expected to follow the university’s application guidelines through the student portal, by logging in and selecting “Apply for Hostel” from the dashboard, choose the 2026/2027 academic session, and indicate the preferred hostel and room.
In furtherance of the processing, the bulletin noted that applicant must then select an available bed space before submitting the completed application for review and approval.
Management however cautioned students not to make any accommodation payment until their applications have been approved, adding that successful applicants are required to complete payment within 48 hours of receiving approval, failing which they may lose the bed spaces allocated to them.
Speaking to our reporter, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Engr. Dr. P. O. Oghenerukevwe, encouraged students to seize the opportunity and secure their accommodation through the official university portal, stating that the application process and payment arrangement are outlined in the university’s official bulletin and student portal guidance.
