Ogorugba Announces Ban on Union Exploitation, Pledges Continued Grassroots Focus

The Executive Chairman of Isoko North Local Government, Hon. (Elder) Prince Godwin Ogorugba, has announced a ban on the exploitation of traders under the guise of union fees.

This declaration was made during a meeting with traders from Ozoro at the Isoko North Council Chamber.

Hon. Ogorugba expressed concern over the increasing cost of goods and rents, stressing that he would not stand by and watch certain individuals make life difficult for the people of Isoko North.

“We will be sending an executive bill to the legislative arms that will block every exhortation of traders. The practice of demanding payment to a union before allowing a business to operate must end, this will bring about free trading” he stated.

The Council Chairman further explained that the government decision to revoke the lock-up shops in the market is part of an effort to eliminate third-party interference. He clarified that the goal is to hand over these shops directly to the traders, ensuring that those with no legitimate business in the market can no longer take advantage of their connections to secure spaces and lease them, sometimes their children even claiming them as inheritance a supposed government property.

Hon. Ogorugba also assured the traders that his government is committed to addressing their needs and improving conditions for the people of Isoko North.

He noted that the actions of multiple unions especially landlords, and agents have contributed to the rising cost of living in Ozoro, making it increasingly difficult for residents to afford basic services.

This move reflects the Chairman ongoing commitment to supporting the local traders and ensuring a fair, transparent, and sustainable market environment.

GOVERNOR SHERIFF OBOREVWORI AND BAD ROADS IN DELTA STATE

By Edherezi Eremutha

Personally, I think it is time for Delta State contractors and all those handling infrastructural contracts in the state to start meeting up to expectations.

This is because the Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, appears not to be the usual Government House kind of a Governor who just sit in the office and dish orders. This one seems to have some tough practicality up his sleeves.

The state is a bit bigger than what it used to be before now, and he may not continue to travel round the 25 Local Government Areas, village to village and cities to towns for project inspections and sight seeing, when there are other official engagements needing attention.

One contractor recently went to the extent of covering a church signpost with his own project description banner upon hearing about the Governor’s unexpected visit. Whereas, a budget has already been made and paid for such signpost.

The Governor should start questioning any contractor with the microphone fully on, to hear anyone that is found wanting at the point of every inspection in other for all to know if there was any form of kickback collection or illegal settlements that may have taken place behind the scene before such shabby projects were executed; which may have led to the shallow construction of projects within the state. This and more will save the Governor’s reputation in addition to cost effectiveness.

If you watch some of those viral videos carefully, you would observe that almost all of these semi victim contractors are often bothered about the Governor’s comments on the scene during those inspections.

Ask them questions like; before this project was carried out, did the government pay you in full or not?

If they say yes, encourage them to speak up on why and how the Job is not been done rightly.

Let these questions be asked and answered on the spot for Deltans to view and give their view about your leadership system in the state.

With this, we can be sure of accountability, value for money and a better Delta tomorrow.
