UZERE LEADERSHIP CRISIS: Tension as Uzere Women Storm Council Secretariat, Call on LGA Chairman To Restore Peace

Palpable tension arose Monday as the women of Uzere community in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State stormed the Isoko South Council Secretariat over an alleged lingering crisis of tenure elongation by one Sunny Eke, calling on the Council Chairman for urgent intervention to restore peace in the community.
The protesters in their numbers who were led to the Council Chairman office by Madam Adhekegba Patience, carried placards bearing various inscriptions such as “Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Call Sunny Eke to Order”, “Say No to Tyranny”, “Say No to Oppression”, “We Need Free and Fair Election in Uzere”, “Sunny Eke Tenure Has Ended, and “Say No to Intimidation”
Other inscriptions include “Uzere Need Peace Not Crisis”, “Sunny Eke is Causing Problem and Crisis to Uzere” and “We Say No to Impunity” amongst others.
The leader of the protesters, Madam Adhekega recalled an earlier consensus by members of Uzere community to shun any act capable of igniting crisis in the community, saying that “during our August, 2024 conference the entire community agreed that we should avoid whatever will bring back the crisis of 2011 and 2012 in Uzere community”.
She asserted that the December conference was supposed to be held, but no conference was held, adding that so many people in the community were dumbfounded over the issue.
Narrating their ordeals, Madam Adhekegba noted that “Uzere community leadership tenure is two years for every elected office holder; the outgoing President General, Mr. Sunny Eke has refused to call a conference so that election can be conducted to elect new executive”.
According to her, “people no longer sleep with two eyes in the community as a result of gunshots every day in the community”.
Speaking further, Madam Adhekegba also added that Uzere community leadership tenure is two years for every elected office holder, stating that the outgoing President General, Mr. Sunny Eke has refused to call a conference so that election can be conducted to elect new executive.
Also speaking, Mrs. Lawrence Onezioke, one of the protesters said “I am tired of war, the crisis that happened years ago, we are yet to recover from it, I have not been locking my doors as a result of fear in case anything happen I can easily run away.”
She said that, “every end of the year, we normally hold our conference, but the outgoing President General, Mr. Sunny Eke claimed conference was held, during a stakeholders meeting with the Isoko South Local Government Chairman, it is a lie from the pit of hell, no conference was held December last year”.
“The Local Government Council Chairman should be briefed that no conference was held in Uzere; Uzere women were never part of any conference held December last year.
“We are tired of crisis, we don’t need war, we need peace in Uzere community”.
On her part, Mrs. Ateghijeri Koko reiterated that they are tired of crisis, noting that they don’t need war in Uzere community, if there is war now, we don’t have any where to run to, during 2011 and 2012, this is how the crisis started and it escalated into a full scale war, houses were burnt down, till now many are yet to recover from it. We were sleeping inside the forest during that crisis, she lamented.
“Every evening till dawn, Mr. Sunny Eke boys always use gunshots to terrorise the community as a result, we are always in panic mood, let the outgoing President General be senta clear message that his tenure has elapsed and give peace a chance.”
“We are pleading with the Local Government Council Chairman to intervene in order to avoid the aforementioned occurrence”
The women, in their separate speeches, added that the community women urgently require and urge the Local Government Council Chairman to intervene, and call those who want to plunge Uzere community into full scale war to order and restore peace to the agrarian and oil rich Uzere community.
Responding, the Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Friday Warri, in a telephone chat said his administration is aware of the issue, “we are on top of the issue. If there is any letter you should should drop it”.
According to him “We are already handling the issue, nothing will happen in Uzere community, you people should go back home and go to your various farms, when I return I will invite you people to come for discussion.”
He assured the women that “Government is going to handle the issue base on facts and truth. We are going to be straightforward, government will not bend his hands on this issue,” he stated.

OIL THEFT: TOMPOLO HAS NO MORAL JUSTIFICATION TO PASS BLAME

The Ex-Militant Leader and Chairman, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd, Chief Government Ekpemukpolo, alias Tompolo has no moral justification to engage in the recent blame game he sparked on the fight against intractable oil theft in Nigeria.

While the Nigeria military’s deep involvement in oil theft is an open secret already over flogged in the public domain, Tompolo must stop the attempt to play the saint to curry public sympathy and paint every other stakeholder bad just to hold on to the partisan oil assets surveillance contract awarded to appease him.

The Defense Headquarters can no longer live in denial of the military’s deep involvement in oil theft. They aid and abet or directly engaged in the money spinning economic sabotage.

Oil theft thriving business in Nigeria is an organised crime that involves collusion by critical stakeholders including the IOCs, indegenous oil companies,militant leaders, security agencies, industry regulators, especially NNPCL, host community players, power brokers in government and contractors who fix & weld vandalised assets and engage in spill clean-ups & remediation contracts.

This is already an open secret. Tompolo isn’t the first person to raise allegations. As governor of Rivers state, Chief Nyesom Wike fearlessly mentioned names of security personal and service commanders directly sponsoring oil theft under his domain at the time when he was governor of River state.

So if at the close of 2024, Tompolo is still accusing faceless Navy and faceless power brokers in Lagos and Abuja he is stepping on their toes of working against his surveillance contract, he is not only telling half truth, but engaging in distraction from the thinking that his Tantita is part of the conspiracy to continuously shield the big players in the oil theft.

Tompolo is diverting attention from the pertinent questions over the credibility and justification for his multi-billion naira surveillance contracts between Tantita and the NNPCL which pays for the contracts.

Among the many questions begging for answers, NNPCL’s Mele Kyari and Tompolo should explain to Nigerians why with Amnesty, the Niger Delta still needs surveillance contracts of bloated sums to free the operating environment of oil theft.

At the peak of their self serving militancy, their bloody armed struggle against the Nigerian state, oil theft and assets vandalism sustained the destructive violence Tompolo, Asari Dokubo, Ateke Tom, Boyloaf and contemporaries carried out in the Niger Delta, much more than the kidnapping of expatriates for ransoms.

After chasing all operators away, these militant leaders enjoyed unhindered access to the oil fields and flow-lines. They traded the stolen crude oil for dollars which gave them instant wealth, some they exchanged in barter for arms to sustain their armed struggle. At other times they destroyed oil assets to induce huge repairs contracts for favoured contractors who were positioned to benefit.

So if Amnesty was given to Tompolo, Dokubo contemporaries and their gangs to desist from oil theft and assets vandalism, why is oil theft growing worse and it is among suspected perpetrators that federal government through NNPCL issues contracts to guard the oil assets?

Isn’t that double standard? For us, Kyari’s surveillance contracts to Tompolo and co is a case of giving the item to the thief to watch over so if it gets lost, he can be called to question.

Assuming the contracts were justified, what pedigree, what exclusive industry experience or expertise in security qualified Tompolo to win his preferential surveillance contract, other than that he has been involved and has been a big beneficiary of the economic sabotage ?

We maintain that Tantita is not in any sincere fight against oil theft. It is a tool for cover up, a conspiracy to shield the big Abuja and Lagos players engaged in the high profile oil theft. Tantita’s hyped achievements, in discoveries of tapping points and seizure of rogue vessels are all stage managed to give false impression of genuine fight against oil theft.

There is nothing Tantita has done that the Army of occupation in the operating space have not done before, arresting vessels, discovering tapping points and destroying illegal refineries. Across the operating space, these illegal refineries are still widespread. Who is feeding them the crude oil to produce local diesel in the bushes around oil & gas assets?

With the Army of occupation in the operating space having lost the trust of government due to deep involvement in the crime they were engaged to fight, Tantita was Kyari’s creation to buy sympathy. They are merely telling the people what they want to hear.

The notion of Tantita efforts pushing crude oil production to 1.8mbpd is sheer propaganda. NNPCL and Kyari do not have an honest figure of Nigeria’s daily production because experts have confirmed time without number that the oil theft happening at the terminal under the watch of the operators and the regulators surpasses what is being taken by those breaking into the lines.

We, NDPC have been in monitoring and evaluation long enough to speak with authority on the matter. Tantita is as guilty as the colluding military, reason they are scoring same guided results as the military.

Like the failed military, Tantita is created to shield the big oil thieves. That’s why in all the hyping, beyond arresting ‘arrangee’ vessels and uncovering theft points, only the foot soldiers are scapegoated. The real sponsors are never exposed to suffer the wrath of the law. With no deterrent, the stealing continues.

When Tantita uncovered the hyped Trans Forcados theft point, Kyari said, “First, the attachments on our Trans- Forcados/Ramos pipeline, which are illegal connections, were professionally done.

“And the result is that they connected it to an inner case line which will never carry crude oil under normal circumstances and we have seen that this line flows all the way parallel with the other two active lines into the Forcados platform.”

That was Kyari tacitly accepting that the real oil thieves are within the corridors of power and NNPCL. Kyari and security agencies also vowed to ensure all suspects linked to that incident would be fished out and punished within the law. Till date has anyone been exposed or punished? The matter has been swept under the rug.

So Tompolo should stop blaming our sensibility with his ‘holier than thou’ allegations. If he expects the public to take his allegations serious, he should also expect us to take serious, the US protesters who accused him of killing his kinsmen who are exposing his alleged atrocities in the Niger Delta.

The duplication of oil assets security contractors in the operating space is creating more setbacks than good. If President Tinubu has lost confidence in the Navy and JTF occupation of the area, he should evict them and let Tompolo take charge and engaged private outfits take full charge.

If they are to work together, let there be proper definition of functions and boundaries. They said Tantita was to provide only intelligence, but anyone monitoring their operations knows they go about with arms which is provoking the abuse of power Tompolo’s kinsmen alleged in the US protest.

Tompolo, siblings and Gbaramatu folks should enjoy the windfall from the partisan surveillance contract quietly. He should not blame and abuse the public with his cheap allegations. He and Kyari should tell us what we don’t know, not what we already know.

The mind game among Tompolo, NNPCL-Mele Kyari and the military is amusing. Few months ago Tompolo built a Transit House in Effurun Barracks (former David Ejoor Barracks).

We also hear Tompolo is building more Transit houses for the military. Who are they deceiving?

Tompolo accuses the military of compromising fight against oil theft and same time building them military transit houses in Delta state.

Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro will hold its 4th Matriculation on Friday, 17th January, 2025.
According to an official bulletin released on Thursday, 9th January, 2025 by the Public Relations Office of the University, the ceremony will be held at the Events/Convocation Arena of the school.
The official statement advised matriculating students to liaise with their respective departments for the collection of their matriculation gowns.
Furthermore, all fresh students, the bulletin stated, were informed of the orientation programme that is to be held penultimate Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th January, 2025.
The statement also contains Management’s directive urging students to pay up their fees to ensure smooth registration process, noting that “management enjoined students who have not paid their school fees to do so and facilitate their registration immediately”.

The former Delta State Secretary to the State Government, Comrade (Chief) Ovuozourie Samuel Macaulay, the Okiroro of Isoko-land and former Commissioner for Peace and Conflict Resolution to Delta State Government, recently hosted a gathering of Isoko APC Leaders, Local Government Area Executives, Ward executives, and party members at his country home in Owhelogbo, Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State.
The event, which took place after the Yuletide celebration, was well-attended, by party members.
Addressing the mammoth crowd of members, Chief Ovuozourie stated that the event was organised to encouraged party members to remain committed to the party’s progress.
The Okiroro of Isoko Nation, while appreciating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for remembering Isoko sons in the oil sector who won three oil blocks bidding, also appealed to the President to remember the Isoko Ethnic Nationality for appointments.
He also reiterated the party’s readiness to support the President’s laudable policies and programmes.
Speaking also during the ceremony, the Isoko North All Progressive Congress (APC) Local Government Area Chairman, Barr. Daniel Emebuno, lauded Macaulay’s efforts, described him as a dynamic leader and political icon who prioritises grassroots mobilisation in his political activism.
He also thanked the party members present for their continued support and assured them of the party’s preparedness to be the ruling party in Government House come 2027 in Delta State.
On his part, Isoko South APC Local Government Area Chairman, Vincent Egbogbo, also expressed gratitude for Macaulay’s unwavering support for the party.
In a separate statement, Chief Eloho Edivri, who represented Senator Joel Onowakpo, Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, urged the party members to unite as an indivisible house and fortify the party’s unity through efforts of one another.
Also a Chieftain of the party, Chief Lucky Jerry Esigie appreciated Macaulay’s pragmatic efforts towards party unity, which has positioned the party for future success.
The event witnessed gains as some members of the PDP defected to APC.

Delta APC in disarray, panic over Oborevwori’s rising profile

In his inaugural address on May 29, 2023, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State re-established the finest definition of governance. In his words, it is “about improving the quality of life of our people, about building bridges of social cohesion, about giving our people the hope of a better tomorrow, and about accelerated development. And it demands creative thinking, proactive action, and exemplary leadership.”

The remarkable phrases in the quote, for me, are “building bridges of social cohesion” and “exemplary leadership,” without which the other objectives cannot be attained.

On this, he has repeatedly reiterated that he is Governor for all Deltans, not just for his political party, the PDP, and he has demonstrated that in, not only his fair distribution and commitment to the completion of multi-sector projects across all the senatorial districts, federal constituencies, local governments and ethnic nationalities, but also in his social and political engagements across all segments of the citizenry.

When our late respected elder statesman, former Labour leader, and chieftain of the APC, Chief Frank Kokori, took ill, he was among the first to visit him at the hospital to offer support.

Educating the public on that occasion, he said: “I know people will think that because he is an APC chieftain I won’t be here. Deltans voted for me as Governor, it is not a party matter now, because we have finished the election and all of us are one. Whether he is APC or not, I am Governor for all Deltans, so I am here as governor for all, not for any party.”

Acknowledging and pleased by the gesture, Chief Kokori said: “I never knew Governor Oborevwori is a good man, because immediately he heard about my condition, he came to see me. I am so happy that he is not a mean fellow. He is a real Governor, a man who has such a heart is a good man. I am happy with him and have also prayed for him.”

Oborevwori also took time off to attend the thanksgiving service of Chief Stella Okotete, former National Woman Leader of the APC, where he also reiterated his broad-mindedness, which is in consonance with the virtues of good governance.

“I do not segregate. I want all of us to be united with the interest of developing Delta State. The most important thing is to do what you should be remembered for while in office.”

It was in the same spirit that he invited various leaders of the opposition party to the anniversary of his first year in office, a mindset for which Distinguished Senator Joel Onowakpo (APC), Delta South, extolled him.

“The Governor of Delta State is the Governor to everyone in Delta State and I do not think he is Governor to only those who are PDP. His Excellency extending invitation to all the Senators from Delta State, irrespective of their political leaning, is the smartest and wisest thing that he has done. I want to say that His Excellency Sheriff Oborevwori should be commended for being broad-minded like our President. I want to encourage him to continue to be broad-minded and also be inclusive, (and) I want to encourage everyone to move away from primitive politics. This country needs cross-fertilization of ideas to have rapid development. We can be in different parties but with one common goal – the empowerment of our people and the development of our environment.”

Perhaps the most revealing testament came from President Bola Tinubu, who, at the wedding of Oborevwori’s son, acknowledged that since he came into office, he has been a Governor for all the people of the state.

Describing him as Pan Deltan, detribalised Governor and a bridge builder, he said if all leaders shun political and religious inclinations, like Oborevwori does, Nigeria would be a better place for all citizens to fulfill their God-given destinies.

These testaments and glowing tributes to Oborevwori have continued to haunt opposition elements in Delta State as they look, against all reality, reason and hope, towards 2027.

In their desperate fear of the wide commendations on Oborevwori, they went to town with propaganda that the Governor may be planning to defect to the APC, pointing to his recent call for citizens to pray for and support the ongoing national reforms by the Federal Government, explaining that if President Tinubu fails, then the states would also fail.

Their confusion and panic can only be because they do not understand the great leadership qualities being displayed by Oborevwori, and cannot draw the line between governance and politics.

It needs no explaining that the policies and reforms of the Federal Government affect all states of the federation, and responsible leadership demands collaboration in the overall interest of the nation. The opposite would only be tantamount to wishing oneself and nation evil, and in self-immolation.

They further tried to reinforce their lies by suggesting that Governor Oborevwori was recently in Ghana in wait to plead with President Tinubu to approve his defection, whereas in fact, he accompanied the President, alongside Governors Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, Agbu Kefas of Taraba some ministers and other top government officials, as part of the Nigerian delegation to the inauguration of the new President of that country.

We know that they are not oblivious of such diplomatic practice which provides leverage for bilateral relations, they only wish that Oborevwori does not command such relevance in the national scheme.

That is why they have also been haunted by the recent acclamation of Oborevwori by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Abudulrzaq Abdulrahman, during their New Year visit to the President, at which he described the infrastructure building projects under Oborevwori as “unimaginable.”

It is truly unimaginable seeing an administration with 513 roads, drainage and stormwater channel projects going on simultaneously across urban and rural areas, the magnitude and pace of work on the Warri/Effurun flyover bridges project, the commitment on the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway, the resolve on the Trans Warri Ode-Itsekiri 26km project with 19 bridges in which 15 have been completed, the determination with which the Beneku Bridge in Ndokwa East has been pursued as well as the Orere-Ewu Bridge and many more projects across all sectors.

It was for this reason, for instance, that the Nigeria Governors Forum and the Federal Ministry of Health awarded the Bill and Melinda Gates Awards for Primary Health Care Development to Delta State, an award that the state has never been mentioned in any category, talk less of winning, until the Oborevwori administration.

Sadly for the elements, despite their shameful denial of the obvious and plausible development index in the administration of Governor Oborevwori, which pitifully instills great fear in them ahead of 2027, and their attempt to confuse and decisive the public with baseless and illogical propaganda, there is nothing they can do to stop the good works of Sheriff nor the acknowledgment by both the President, his fellow Governors who do regular peer review and are aware of developments in their counterpart states, and most importantly, the Delta public for whom Oborevwori is working and they are seeing it.

In 2027, these misguidedly overzealous elements will weep again, and we would only say to them: “Weep not, little peeps, Sheriff is just too much.”

ABIGHE CONDOLES AMBASSADOR EMOEFE, OKPUGO OF IRRI, OVER MOTHER’S DEATH

Hon . Abighe Gabriel, former Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution has commiserated with Ambassador High Chief Immanuel Emoefe, Okpugo of Irri, on the death of his mother, late Mrs. Abugo Eunice Omojefe who passed-on recently at 106 years.

In a condolence message, Hon. Abighe payed glowing tribute to the late centenarian for the exceptional qualities of a loving, dear and kind mother.

According to Abighe, “I appreciate God for Mama’s life as she remained strong and gallant even at old age. As the oldest woman in Ikpide-Irri Community, she was blessed with an articulate memory
of history and events of decades past.”

Hon. Abighe then prayed for God to grant the Okpugo of Irri kingdom , the family and the entire Ikpide- Irri people the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.

Meanwhile, the burial of Mama Eunice Omojefe has been slated for Friday, 21st February, 2025 at Ikpide-Irri, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The pervasive and the attendant effects of hard drugs usage amongst the youths of Isoko Nation have, in recent times, been of great worries to the people, particularly, the Isoko-Nation Progressive Like-Minds (INPLM), whose members are seriously concerned and committed to the future of our society.

It is a common knowledge that the challenges facing our society are multifaceted, but one pressing issue that demands our collective attention is the growing impact of hard drugs on our young people.
The temptation of hard drugs may seem like an escape or a shortcut to a life of excitement or belonging. However, the harsh truth is that these substances come with life-altering consequences, not just for the individual, but for families, friends, and the community as a whole. Hard drugs can lead to addiction, physical and mental health deterioration, social isolation, involvement in crime, and even death.
We advocate for the understanding that this path leads not only to destruction and despair but also robs the addicts of their dreams, ambitions, and the future they deserve. The long-term damage caused by addiction can impair one’s ability to contribute meaningfully to society, derails one’s personal growth, and destroy the very essence of who you are.
Instead, we encourage addicts to channel their energy and aspirations into positive avenues. Focus on education, skill acquisition, and personal development. Explore creative outlets, engage in sports, and connect with others who share similar goals of building a better tomorrow. One should always surround himself or herself with positive influences—mentors, elders, and peers who uplift and motivate you.

COURT BARS FIDELIS OBOKPAINO FROM PARADING SELF AS ISOKO DEVELOPMENT UNION YOUTH WING PRESIDENT

A Delta State Magistrate Court sitting in Olomoro Magisterial District, Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State has barred the embattled immediate past President of the Isoko Develpment Union (IDU) Youth Wing, Mr. Fidelis Obokpaino Iraroraina from parading himself as the President of the Youth Wing of Isoko Develpment Union (IDU).
His Worship C. E. Amudo gave this order in a case in Suit Number MCM/8/2024, filled by Hon. Frederick Efeh (The President General of Okpe-Isoko), Chief Humphrey Odhe (The President General of Ellu Community), Mr. Akparobi Riches Chinedu and Mr. Okeh Ofego Best (For themselves and on behalf of Isoko Nation except the Defendants)
The suit is against the President General of Isoko Develpment Union (IDU), Mr. Fidelis Obokpaino Iraroraina, the registered trustees of IDU, Delta State Oil Producing Area Develpment Commission (DESOPADEC), Hon. Victor Egbo (Hon. Commissioner representing Isoko Ethnic Nationality in DESOPADEC), Chief Kome Okpobor (Executive Director, Finance and Administration, DESOPADEC), Hon. Godwin Ogorugba (Chairman, Isoko North Local Government Area) and Hon. Friday (Chairman Isoko South Local Government Area)
His Worship Amudo, upon the evaluation of Plaintiff/Applicants motion exparte dated 10th day of December, 2024, filed same day and after hearing from F. F. Onomericks, Counsel for the Plaintiffs/Applicants, entered that Mr. Fidelis Obokpaino should stop parading himself as the President of Isoko Develpment Union Youth Wing effect from the 23rd day of December, 2024.
Recall that the court action became necessary to the lDU Youth Wing stakeholders over an alleged suspicious fowl play and financial impropriety against the 2nd Defendant/Respondent, who was reported to be compromising the system to perpetuate himself in office beyond the period stipulated by the bye law, which specified a single tenure of 3 years rotational presidency between lsoko South and North Local Government Areas.
The order specifically read: “That the 1st and 3rd Defendants/Respondents are restricted from appointing Executive for the offices of Isoko Develpment Union Youth Wing from 23rd day of December, 2024 when his tenure expires pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
“That the 2nd Defendant/Respondent are restrained from parading himself as the President of Isoko Develpment Union Youth Wing from 23rd December, 2024 when his tenure expires pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
“That the 4th and 6th Defendants/Respondents are hereby directed to pay the monthly Social Security money of the Isoko Youth Wing of IDU to an interest yielding account to be opened and managed by the Registrar of this Honourable Court from the month of December, 2024 when the tenure of the 2nd Defendant/Respondent expires pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice”
The case was further adjoined to the 10th day of January, 2025 for hearing of the motion.
