The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Isoko North Constituency I, in the Delta State House of Assembly, Engr. Ashakah Maro Orobosa has distributed 4,200 English Language and Mathematics textbooks and 16,500 notebooks to students in government-owned secondary schools across the constituency.
The distribution exercise, which was flagged off recently at Alaka Grammar School and Igbonine Grammar School, Ozoro, is aimed at supporting SS3 students preparing for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and improving access to essential learning materials.
Speaking during the exercise, Ashakah described English Language and Mathematics as foundational subjects for students aspiring to pursue higher education and professional careers.
He urged the beneficiaries to study diligently, remain disciplined and make effective use of the materials.
“We should reach out to the upcoming ones, our younger ones, the less privileged and the needy.
“I am here today because we see education as a master key to success in life. If you don’t read, you can’t pass examinations,” he said.
Ashakah disclosed that, through the Elyanna Foundation, he had sponsored free WAEC and JAMB lectures for students over the past two to three years, adding that efforts were underway to sustain and expand educational support for students seeking admission into universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
He appealed to parents and teachers to encourage the students and monitor their academic progress, while expressing his intention to support improvements in educational infrastructure, including classrooms, students’ desks and teachers’ furniture, if elected to the State House of Assembly.
The APC candidate said the initiative was in line with efforts to support the educational objectives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, an SS3 student of Alaka Grammar School, Ozoro, Oghenelukome Ebenezer, thanked Ashakah for the gesture, saying the materials would motivate students to concentrate on their studies and pursue their career aspirations.
The Principal of Igbonine Grammar School, Mrs. Evelyn Onothoja, and the Vice Principal (Academic) of Alaka Grammar School, Mrs. Theresa Okpighe, commended the initiative, noting that the materials would contribute to effective teaching and learning.
They also recalled Ashakah’s previous intervention towards the provision of a borehole, describing the latest gesture as another valuable contribution to the students’ welfare.
The APC candidate also assured that the distribution will extend to other government-owned secondary schools in the constituency, including the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE), Ozoro; Emo-Eni Grammar School, Ellu; Ovrode Secondary School, Ovrode; Aradhe Grammar School, Aradhe; Oketa Mixed Grammar School, Ofagbe; Ofagbe Technical College, Ofagbe; Okpe-Isoko Grammar School, Okpe-Isoko; and Oyede Comprehensive High School, Oyede.
